NTU International is preparing a proposal for the EU-funded project “EU Assistance for the Uzbekistan AgriFood Development Strategy 2020–2030”, which aims to support the Government of Uzbekistan in the implementation of a sustainable, market-oriented, inclusive and climate-smart agri-food system. The project focuses on strengthening policy and regulatory frameworks, institutional capacities, and public sector governance in support of the Agri-Food Development Strategy 2020–2030. The Technical Assistance will support sustainable land management, soil conservation, pasture management, and climate-resilient agricultural practices aimed at improving environmental sustainability and resilience in Uzbekistan’s rural areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support development and implementation of sustainable land management and rangeland management strategies;
- Provide technical assistance on soil conservation, pasture management, land restoration, and sustainable agricultural land use practices;
- Conduct assessments related to land degradation, desertification, soil fertility, and rangeland conditions;
- Support development of land management frameworks, operational guidelines, and resource management plans;
- Advise Ministries and public institutions on sustainable land governance, ecosystem management, and climate-resilient agricultural practices;
- Promote integration of biodiversity protection, climate adaptation, and sustainable natural resource management into agricultural systems;
- Contribute to preparation of technical studies, land management assessments, policy recommendations, and restoration strategies;
- Coordinate with Ministries, environmental agencies, research institutions, farmers’ organisations, and development partners;
- Deliver workshops, technical training, and capacity-building activities related to land management and rangeland governance;
- Contribute to monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of land restoration and natural resource management initiatives.
Education:
Master’s degree in land management, agronomy, environmental sciences, natural resource management, rangeland management, or another relevant field.
General Professional Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in land management, rangeland management, natural resource management, or environmental sustainability;
- Proven experience working on agricultural, environmental, or rural development projects in developing or transition economies;
- Experience in international development cooperation and donor-funded programmes.
Specific Professional Experience:
- Minimum 7 years of experience in sustainable land management, rangeland governance, or ecosystem restoration initiatives;
- Demonstrated experience with pasture management systems, soil conservation, land rehabilitation, or climate-resilient land use practices;
- Experience related to desertification control, watershed management, biodiversity conservation, or sustainable agriculture is considered an advantage;
- Experience supporting projects financed by the EU, World Bank, IFAD, FAO, UNDP, GEF, ADB, or other international financial institutions is considered a strong asset;
- Experience working with Ministries, environmental agencies, land management authorities, or research institutions is considered an advantage;
- Experience in Central Asia, Eastern Europe, or post-Soviet countries is considered an asset.
Languages:
English (C1 mandatory); Working knowledge of Russian is considered a strong asset.
