About NTT DATA and Tangity: NTT DATA is a trusted global innovator with over 100,000 professionals in 50+ countries. Headquartered in Tokyo, we bring elements of our Japanese heritage—precision, long-term thinking, and social responsibility—into our UK work. In the UK, we work across telecoms, financial services, manufacturing, and the public sector, delivering end-to-end services from strategy to implementation. Tangity, part of the NTT DATA Design Network, is a global design studio dedicated to humanising complexity. We combine Strategy, Technology, and Design to create meaningful, inclusive, and impactful services that improve lives and systems. Our studios work closely with delivery teams to embed design deeply into every project and across every touchpoint.
What you'll be doing:
The Role: We are looking for a Lead Product Designer, who has experience in delivering AI products and services and has the ability to leverage AI tools in their design process. This role sits within cross-functional product squads alongside Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientists and AI specialists. You will help shape intelligent products from early concept through to scaled delivery, ensuring they are intuitive, transparent and grounded in real user needs. You will combine strong product thinking, systems design and interaction craft with a practical understanding of how AI models behave in the real world, including their strengths, limitations and evolving behaviour over time. As this is a strategic capability within the design team, the role also includes helping to define and mature Tangity’s human-centred AI approach to product design. Alongside client delivery, you will contribute to establishing best practices, frameworks and reusable design patterns for working with AI, from discovery and experimentation through to production and governance. This includes helping shape our point of view for clients, contributing to go-to-market propositions, and supporting AI maturity assessments that help organisations understand where and how AI can create meaningful value. In the early phase of the role, there will be a focus on building these foundations while supporting client engagements. Over time, you will become a key voice for AI-informed design within the studio, helping teams design intelligent products that are not only technically powerful but also responsible, understandable and trusted by the people who use them.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead the design of AI enabled products and features from discovery to delivery.
- Shape user experiences that incorporate machine learning, generative AI or automation.
- Translate complex technical capabilities into simple, human centred interactions.
- Define the level of automation for a product or its functions to determine the most optimal level of human in the loop / over the loop.
- Use AI tools within your own workflow for research synthesis, ideation, prototyping and iteration.
- Collaborate closely with Data Science and Engineering to define feasible, responsible solutions.
- Prototype conversational, predictive and adaptive experiences.
- Define interaction patterns for explainability, feedback and human oversight.
- Facilitate co-creation workshops with clients to identify high value AI opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Own the end-to-end user experience of AI driven features or products.
- Balance desirability, feasibility, viability and responsibility in AI solutions.
- Design for transparency, trust and ethical use of AI.
- Define how users understand, control and correct AI outputs.
- Contribute to experimentation and evaluation frameworks, including qualitative and quantitative testing.
- Establish scalable design patterns for AI interactions across products.
- Mentor designers and partners on best practice for AI informed design and optimum workflow.
- Present concepts and rationale clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Expected Behaviours:
- Curious about emerging technologies and proactive in exploring new tools.
- Comfortable working in ambiguity where systems evolve over time.
- Systems thinker who understands flows, edge cases and dependencies.
- Confident collaborator across Product, Engineering and Data Science.
- Thoughtful and responsible in considering bias, fairness and risk.
- Clear communicator who can simplify complex technical ideas.
- Hands on and pragmatic, willing to test, learn and iterate quickly.
- Accountable and outcome focused, linking AI initiatives to measurable impact.
What experience you'll bring:
- 8+ years experience in product design, with recent experience working on AI enabled products or services.
- Strong experience working in agile, cross-functional squads.
- Demonstrated ability to design for machine learning, generative AI or intelligent automation.
- Experience designing conversational, adaptive or predictive interfaces.
- Strong UX and interaction design fundamentals.
- Ability to prototype complex interactions and flows using tools such as Figma.
- Experience collaborating closely with Engineers and Data Scientists.
- Solid understanding of AI capabilities and limitations, including model uncertainty and edge cases.
- Experience using AI tools within your own design workflow.
Nice to Have:
- Experience defining AI governance, ethical frameworks or responsible design guidelines.
- Familiarity with prompt design and evaluation techniques.
- Experience working on enterprise AI transformation programmes.
- Exposure to service design in AI enabled ecosystems.
- Public speaking, thought leadership or published work in AI and design.
- Experience mentoring teams on adopting AI into their design practice.
