As a Senior Design Solution Engineer (mechanical discipline), you will be taking the lead in ensuring there is a high quality, accurate and tenderable mechanical scope of work defined for each of the data centre fit-out opportunities. The role can be based out of London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt or Berlin and will have input on projects across the wider region which will include a variety of upgrades and fit out projects. The position may occasionally involve supporting global initiatives, which may include out-of-region opportunities or conducting or contributing to supporting peer reviews with colleagues across regions.
The Senior Design Solution Engineer will drive a multi-disciplinary design delivery process acting as the primary contact to NTT’s external design vendors, liaising with various internal stakeholders and consulting with other technical members in both Local and Global Technical Operations and Design teams to ensure best-in-class solutions are made with careful assessment of risks and opportunities to RIBA Stage 2 (30% level plans) only.
They will help develop and promote the adoption of best practice processes and procedures in both design and engineering and wider delivery teams.
Key responsibilities:- Review intake forms and scoping material created by Solution Engineers and produce an end-to-end scope of work that is tenderable covering any site / base build modifications required including any commissioning or documentation outputs as well as the client specific requirements.
- Lead the technical review ensuring input and sign off from other stakeholder teams including but not limited to Local Operations and Engineering teams.
- Carry out any appropriate capacity checks to ensure solution proposed can be serviced via existing M&E infrastructure and/or suggest modifications required to support proposed requirements.
- Input into both cost and schedule creation relating to design activities per opportunity.
- Drive and manage external parties supporting the volume of requests ensuring performance goals and outputs are met specifically around quality, accuracy and timeline KPI’s.
- Undertake site surveys (or co-ordinate local resource) as necessary across EMEA to establish the feasibility of design proposals.
- Support design reviews (for specific projects) to ensure compliance with company design standards, local code requirements and the project brief.
- Proactively involve the wider NTT team where required to capture any infrastructure or system upgrades that are required to meet the scope of requirements including power, cooling ancillary systems (e.g. security, monitoring, metering and fire safety) and any necessary CFDs to RIBA Stage 2 (30% plans).
- Actively participate in the lessons learned process post RFS to ensure knowledge is applied and implemented in future designs.
- Assess, track and validate any change to scope and manage the change through the change management process.
- Assess, mitigate, and manage risks connected with design to reduce/eliminate residual project risks and resolve design related issues.
- University Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Demonstratable experience in mechanical design of mission critical data centres or similar critical M&E led industries (e.g. semiconductor, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, energy).
- Experience working within multi-disciplinary design teams, preferably in a leading role.
- Experience in whitespace fit outs, particularly on the solutioning and design aspects.
- International experience and outlook both in type of company (multi-national Consultant/ Contractor/Operator) and project experience (have worked on projects outside home country).
- Support the development of new tools, processes, and procedures for best practice design management.
- Contribute driving innovation in design to improve reliability, constructability and ease of operation, keeping a focus on sustainability as an overarching requirement in line with NTTs commitment to our sustainable development goals.
- Strategic thinking with structured and target-oriented approach.
- Proficient in AutoCAD/BIM.
- Knowledge of CFD modeling is a plus.
- Ability to work in multinational, interdisciplinary and culturally diverse teams.
- Passion for start-up and ramp up environments.
- Passion for listening to stakeholders and customers and a world-class service mentality.
- Outstanding relationship-builder and communicator, both internally and externally.
- Good written and oral communication skills in English. German language skills would be beneficial.
