The Design and Construction team is currently recruiting Design Manager (m/f/d) or Senior Design Manager (m/f/d) . You will primarily support projects in London, Amsterdam and Germany but will also have input on projects across the wider EMEA region which will include a variety of new construction, phased expansion, upgrade and fitout projects.
Our Design and Construction department
To build a new Data Center requires building and environmental permits, lots of equipment including pipes, wires, concrete, steel and drawings and specs showing where to put them and how they should work. The Design and Construction team manage a large group of external designers, specialists and consultants who create all the drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports that are required for our procurement and construction colleagues to be able to purchase and build our Data Centers on time, on budget and as sustainably as possible.
The successful candidate will drive a multi-disciplinary design delivery process acting as the primary contact to NTT\’s external design vendors, liaising with various internal stakeholders and consulting with other members of D&E team to ensure best design decisions are made with careful assessment of risks and opportunities. You will help develop and promote adoption of best practice process and procedures in both the design and engineering and wider construction teams.
This is a full time hybrid role that can be based in either London, Amsterdam or Germany.
What you will do
- Drive/support end to end design delivery process starting from brief definition and internal alignment with various stakeholders, to appointment, management and review of external design vendors that carry out design work for projects
- Work in conjunction with associated Project Manager for each project to ensure design delivery is progressing in line with projects brief, agreed budget and programme from throughout design and construction until hand over to Operations
- Undertake and/or supervise design reviews to ensure compliance with company design standards, local code requirements and the project brief
- Ensure regular reporting of progress against agreed plans to senior members of Design and Engineering and the associated project managers
- Ensure quality and value for money received through third party appointments
- Undertake specialist reviews within scope of your technical expertise
- Contribute driving innovation in design to improve reliability, constructability and ease of operation keeping a focus on sustainability as an overarching requirement in line with NTT\’s commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals
- Develop and manage long term relationships with key third party design and equipment vendors
- Interface with peers within other departments within the region and with peers in D&E teams globally
What we are looking for
- University Degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Engineering or equivalent
- Demonstratable experience in design of mission critical and/or similar hi-tech content M&E led industries (e.g., Pharmaceutical, Food and Drink manufacturing, Oil and Gas, Energy, etc.)
- Experience working within multi-disciplinary design teams, preferably in a leading role
- Experience in design consultant/client engineer/site engineer/contractor engineer roles
- International experience and outlook both in type of company (multi-national Consultant/ Contractor/Operator) and project experience (have worked on projects outside home country, ideally have lived outside home country for a period)
- Good written and oral communication skills in English, German language skills would be beneficial
- For UK: Undergo full security checks to BS7858:2019
