Your role at a glance: Part of the EMEA Mechanical Engineering Team, the Mechanical Engineer will be based in the UK and will provide support to regional engineering teams in the construction, commissioning, management and operation of their mechanical and cooling infrastructures. They will provide consistent regular reporting of the condition and efficiency of the countries mechanical and cooling systems, identifying any areas for improvement. They will work in identifying and planning improvement projects and will provide a regional update on progress. They will review and approve the technical aspects of high‑risk changes and incident reports. They will also provide support to countries during incidents and will lead any follow‑up investigation and analysis as required.
What we are looking for:
- Responsibilities / Duties:
- Assist the regional team in defining and implementing the NTT Global Data Centers EMEA Tech‑Ops (Technical Operations) standards and ensure that the mechanical infrastructures are effectively maintained and optimized.
- Keep up to date with data center developments in terms of new technology in close cooperation with our suppliers and maintenance providers.
- Help and support the regional team in creating energy business cases for infrastructure change—develop realistic plans, set goals, align plans with Tech‑Ops objectives and coordinate with other team members.
- Ensure that the mechanical systems are efficiently optimized.
- Carry out regular tours and ad‑hoc inspections of the regional facilities.
- Attend any internal or external quality‑related audits.
- Regularly review and develop commissioning procedures including subcontractors.
- Hold post‑handover project lessons‑learnt meetings for further improvement.
- Conduct meetings regarding the operational performance of the mechanical infrastructure and provide regular updates to the stakeholders.
- Instruct regional personnel in the mechanical & cooling infrastructure in close collaboration with the training department.
- Carry out scenario training for the site team with a view to continuous improvement.
- Be part of the EMEA call‑out team as required.
- Carry out reviews and comment on designs of complex mechanical infrastructures (including interdependencies with other disciplines such as electrical, controls, and fire/life safety).
- Travel to support sites in mainland Europe as and when required.
- Carry out project management duties if required, e.g. initial planning, costing, procurement, subcontractor selection, supervision and management.
Requirements:
- Several years of experience working in a mission‑critical mechanical environment within a large company; IT/Telecoms industry preferred.
- Several years of experience in leading a technical management function.
- Experience in data centers or a similar environment is considered a significant advantage though not essential; this will be a key consideration if multiple candidates are assessed for suitability.
- Industry or manufacturer training in HVAC, including, but not limited to, cooling systems, evaporative cooling, pumps, pressure systems.
- Subject‑matter expert understanding of operational and maintenance governance principles.
- Working knowledge of Plan‑Do‑Check‑Act (Deming cycle) highly desirable.
- Aware of Root Cause Analysis management frameworks highly desirable.
- Recognised Health and Safety qualification highly desirable.
- Proficient in English language both written and verbal.
- STEK/HVAC qualified for the region.
