Your role at a glance The Senior IIoT & SCADA Engineer provides senior-level engineering expertise for the design, implementation, integration, and lifecycle management of enterprise telemetry platforms and operational technology solutions. This role serves as the technical lead for complex telemetry initiatives, translating architectural direction into scalable, reliable, and maintainable implementations that enable the collection, monitoring, and delivery of operational data. Working closely with Operational Technology Architecture, Telemetry Engineering, Operational Data Platforms, Data Center Operations, and IT Systems, Networks, and Platforms groups, the Senior IIoT & SCADA Engineer designs and implements telemetry solutions, integrates operational systems, and resolves complex technical challenges. The role provides technical mentorship to engineering staff, promotes engineering best practices, and contributes to the continuous evolution of the organization's telemetry capabilities.
What we are looking for
- Design, implement, configure, and maintain enterprise telemetry platforms and operational technology solutions supporting operational data acquisition and monitoring.
- Lead the engineering and technical implementation of complex telemetry initiatives, translating architectural designs into scalable and supportable solutions.
- Integrate operational technology systems with telemetry platforms, enterprise applications, and operational data services.
- Develop, configure, and maintain telemetry models, alarming strategies, data collection methods, and system integrations supporting operational visibility.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues affecting telemetry platforms, operational data collection, and systems integration.
- Collaborate with Operational Technology Architecture to implement reference architectures, technical standards, and platform improvements.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, engineering diagrams, implementation standards, and operational procedures supporting telemetry platforms.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership during solution design, implementation, and operational support activities.
- Evaluate new technologies, software capabilities, and engineering approaches to improve platform reliability, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
- Support platform lifecycle activities, including upgrades, modernization initiatives, capacity planning, and continuous improvement efforts.
Knowledge & Attributes:
- Working knowledge of enterprise telemetry platforms, operational technology systems, systems integration, and operational data acquisition principles.
- Ability to lead complex technical implementations, troubleshoot multidisciplinary systems, and mentor engineering teams while collaborating effectively across technical disciplines.
- Knowledge of Ignition SCADA platform (Inductive Automation) and Niagara Framework (Tridium).
- Knowledge of MQTT telemetry architectures and broker technologies.
- Knowledge of industrial protocols (BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, OPC-UA).
- Knowledge of EPMS/BMS platforms and field device integration.
- Knowledge of SQL-based data platforms and historian systems.
- Knowledge of OT/IT network infrastructure and secure communications (TLS).
- Knowledge of telemetry data modeling, normalization, and ingestion pipelines.
- Knowledge of large-scale, multi-site OT telemetry deployments.
- Knowledge of data center infrastructure systems (UPS, generators, cooling, PDUs).
- Knowledge of ISA-95 and IEC 62443 architecture and OT security principles.
- Knowledge of cloud IoT platforms (Azure IoT, AWS IoT).
- Knowledge of system integration, commissioning, and operational monitoring.
Academic Qualifications & Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Industrial Automation, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Industry certifications related to operational technology, industrial automation, cloud platforms, systems engineering, or networking preferred.
Required Experience:
- 8+ years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting operational technology, telemetry, industrial automation, or systems integration solutions.
- Experience implementing enterprise telemetry platforms and integrating operational systems with enterprise applications and cloud services.
- Experience designing and troubleshooting complex operational technology or telemetry solutions within highly available environments.
- Experience developing technical documentation, implementation standards, and engineering diagrams.
- Experience mentoring technical staff and providing engineering leadership on complex technical initiatives.
- Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols, systems integration principles, networking concepts, and operational data collection technologies.
Physical Requirements:
- Primarily sitting with some walking, standing, and bending.
- Able to hear and speak on the telephone.
- Close visual work on a computer terminal.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.
