This role is responsible for defining and leading the API migration strategy from legacy platforms to Spring Bootâbased microservices architectures. The candidate will assess currentâstate APIs, dependencies, and integration flows and design a scalable, secure, and resilient targetâstate architecture. They will establish API standards covering versioning, documentation, error handling, security, and observability. The role includes driving API lifecycle management using API gateways and developer portals.
The architect will lead modernization initiatives, including refactoring monolithic systems into microservices where appropriate. They will ensure backward compatibility and manage API deprecation strategies with minimal business disruption. The position requires defining and implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for efficient API delivery. Close collaboration with DevOps, Security, Cloud, and Development teams is essential to ensure alignment and governance.
The candidate will provide technical leadership, enforce code quality standards, and document architectural decisions and roadmaps. They will support performance tuning, scalability planning, and reliability engineering initiatives. Experience in Java development and enterprise integration, with strong expertise in Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, RESTful APIs, and OpenAPI standards is required.
Handsâon experience with API gateways (Apigee, Azure API Management, etc.), messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ, containerization using Docker, and orchestration with Kubernetes is required. A solid understanding of security standards including OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, and distributed systems principles is essential. Experience with cloud platforms, observability tools, eventâdriven architecture, and CI/CD pipelines is highly desirable. Experience with relational and NoSQL databases is also necessary.
Success in this role will be measured by a wellâdefined API migration roadmap, successful lowâdowntime migrations, improved scalability, and performance, and reduced technical debt through standardized governance and architecture best practices. Strong architectural thinking and system design capabilities, mentoring, and technical coaching abilities are important. The ability to drive technical decisions and governance, excellent stakeholder communication, and leadership skills are essential.
