We are looking for experienced, pragmatic, personable and talented Solution Architects and Application Architects for our UK Defence accounts, supporting the delivery of digital, data and technology services. You will have experience of working with national scale systems and services, gained from previous engagements within government Defence departments such as the Ministry of Defence, with ideally exposure or experience of the Army environment, and/or National Security.
Your technical skills will be broad, covering aspects such as consulting, cloud services, application integration, data management and custom application development. You will be comfortable working in environments with multiple suppliers and interacting with a varied set of stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing
You will be working to define solutions and shape the architectural aspects of programmes. This may range from driving initial discovery phases to understand the landscape and identify challenges, through to designing solutions within product and programme teams. You will be comfortable working in an agile, fast moving environment – building relationships quickly and working as part of collaborative, multi-functional teams. You will own or contribute to activities such as:
- Evaluating the current state of a solution or service;
- Identifying challenges, gaps and opportunities;
- Identifying technical solutions and options;
- Defining programme roadmaps and high level direction setting;
- Defining transition states and transformation approaches;
- Supporting estimation and business case generation for proposed solutions;
- Guiding proposed solutions through technical governance reviews;
- Building relationships with technical and business stakeholders.
What you will bring
- Strong solution architecture experience, gained within the Defence and Army environment.
- Strong knowledge of cloud-based services (ideally AWS) and cloud native solutions.
- Experience working within an architectural framework (e.g. TOGAF, Zachman).
- Experience of delivering solutions with strict security controls, where external security assurance is mandated.
- Experience defining the high level engineering approach at a programme level – such as defining transition states, architectural roadmaps and identifying potential delivery options.
- Delivery with Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE), such as with Archimate and Sparx EA.
- Broad expertise of technologies and applications, such as integration and messaging services, digital services, case management, data integration and have good, up-to-date knowledge of emerging technology approaches.
- The ability to spot and address common themes and architecturally significant concerns.
- Excellent communication skills and strengths in producing high quality and accurate deliverables.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and management skills.
- Adept in using a range of influencing styles to build strong sustainable relationships.
Candidates must hold a current SC or be SC clearable.
