The Principal Design Engineer in the Power systems engineering division at NTT Data will work with our Critical National Infrastructure clients in the UK and Ireland’s Power and Gas sectors. The role will involve leadership and execution in Power Network design and modelling, collaborating with Distribution Network Operators and Transmission System Operators and acting as a trusted advisor at the Department head level for our clients’ Network Planning and Engineering divisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Network modelling and design on DigSILENT PowerFactory, IPSA, DINIS, PSS‑SINCAL and other network modelling applications
  • Load Flow Analysis
  • Thermal, voltage and fault level analysis
  • Preparation of G99 compliant offer letters on behalf of power DNOs and TSOs for EHV and HV level major connections
  • Approval of G99 schemes on behalf of DNO clients
  • Design and configuration of Active Network Management schemes on platforms such as SGS and ZIV
  • Curtailment analysis for ANM schemes
  • Design AI and ML‑oriented software solutions to automate power systems analysis processes
  • Design and optimise technical and financial modelling solutions for power generation clients for revenue maximisation through input and output optimisation
  • Design load and generation forecasting methodologies and solutions for DNOs, TSOs, BESS operators and other power generators
  • Design whole‑system flexibility management solutions for power distribution clients
  • Engage with key client‑side departments related to network planning, modelling, design, flexibility systems and capital projects as a trusted advisor
  • Perform protection design and substation design at 132 KV level

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Power Systems Engineering (PhD preferred). A relevant bachelor’s degree with over 10 years of industry experience is considered equivalent.
  • Proficiency in load flow analysis, thermal/voltage constraint analysis and fault level analysis in the context of DNOs, TSOs, and large‑scale generation projects (wind, solar, battery).
  • Specialised experience working with power distribution or transmission networks at 132 KV and above in the UK, Ireland or comparable overseas networks.
  • Experience in major power systems modelling tools such as DigSilent PowerFactory, PSS‑E, PSS‑SINCAL and IPSA, including protection design toolsets.
  • Practical knowledge of creating automation and AI solutions for power network systems using Python or DigSilent Programming Language.
  • Hands‑on experience with client projects involving grid supply‑point‑level (132 KV+) substation or protection design.
  • Senior roles in a DNO or TSO environment will receive preference.
