NTT DATA is seeking a Senior Mainframe Project Manager (hybrid: remote + Sheffield or combination London/Sheffield) for our growing UK team. Competitive salary.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex mainframe projects involving core systems (z/OS, COBOL, JCL) with responsibility for planning, execution, risk management, and stakeholder communication to align with business goals.
- Oversee transformations, migrations, and modernizations while ensuring system stability and performance.
- Manage budget control, resource allocation, and vendor relationships; drive process improvements (ITIL, DevOps).
- Provide leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary teams; ensure clear direction and collaboration; manage vendor performance where applicable.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning & Execution: Develop comprehensive plans, define scope, set timelines, manage resources, and track deliverables for mainframe projects.
- Technical Oversight: Guide teams using expertise in z/OS, COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, and REXX; ensure system availability, performance, and security.
- Stakeholder Management: Build relationships and communicate effectively with business leaders, technical teams, and end-users.
- Risk & Change Management: Assess risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement change management for smooth modernizations or migrations.
- Budget & Vendor Management: Control project finances, optimize costs, and manage vendor contracts and relationships.
- Process Improvement: Drive best practices including DevOps, API integration, and ITIL for enhanced mainframe operations.
- Leadership: Motivate and guide teams to maintain direction and a collaborative work environment.
Qualifications
- Proven experience managing large-scale mainframe projects (z/OS preferred; AS/400 acceptable).
- Strong knowledge of mainframe technologies: COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, REXX.
- Proficiency in project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall) and tools.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience with modernization efforts (DevOps, Cloud, API integration).
- Risk management, budgeting, and vendor management capabilities.
Work Model
Hybrid work – remote + on client site (Sheffield or a combination of London + Sheffield).
