Role Summary
The Global People & Culture (P&C) Data Steward & Governance Lead is accountable for building, governing, and continuously improving the quality, structure, and usability of P&C data across the organisation. This role plays a critical part in the build and evolution of SAP-based P&C systems, defining data privacy models, data objects, lineage, and quality standards. Acting as the global Data Steward for all P&C data, the role ensures data is accurate, well-governed, legally compliant, and fit for operational, analytical, and strategic use. Compliance and audit remain an important component of the role but are embedded within a broader data governance and data management mandate.
Key Responsibilities
- P&C Data Architecture & System Enablement: Support and help drive the build and evolution of SAP P&C systems, ensuring data structures are well-defined and future-proof. Partner with IT, SAP teams, and P&C stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust data models. Ensure P&C data is designed to support operational processes, reporting, analytics, and regulatory needs.
- Data Privacy Models & Legal Alignment: Define and maintain P&C data privacy models in line with legal and regulatory requirements (e.g. GDPR). Ensure appropriate handling of sensitive and special-category employee data through clear classification and access models. Act as a bridge between Legal/Privacy teams and system/data design.
- Data Object Catalogue & Master Data: Define, document, and maintain a global P&C Data Object Catalogue / Master, including ownership, definitions, and usage. Establish clear standards for P&C master data and critical data elements. Ensure consistency of data definitions across regions, systems, and processes.
- Data Lineage, Quality & Integrity: Define and build P&C data lineage models, ensuring transparency of data flows across systems and entities. Support the development of Data Quality Indicators and Standards (DQIS) for P&C data. Drive continuous improvement of data accuracy, completeness, and reliability across the P&C landscape.
- Data Stewardship & Governance: Act as the global Data Steward for all P&C data, with end-to-end accountability for data quality and governance. Define data ownership, stewardship roles, and governance processes within P&C. Establish metrics, controls, and reporting to monitor data health and maturity.
- Compliance, Risk & Audit (Embedded): Ensure P&C data governance aligns with data protection, retention, and compliance requirements. Support internal and external audits related to P&C data, systems, and processes. Partner with Compliance, Risk, and Privacy teams to address issues and drive remediation where needed.
- Stakeholder & Change Management: Work closely with P&C leadership, IT, SAP teams, Legal, Privacy, and regional stakeholders. Drive adoption of data standards and governance practices through guidance, documentation, and training. Act as a trusted advisor on P&C data matters across the organisation.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential: Strong experience in data governance, data management, or data stewardship, ideally in a global environment. Hands-on experience working with enterprise systems, preferably SAP in an HR/P&C context. Solid understanding of data models, data objects, data lineage, and data quality frameworks. Experience defining and managing master data and data catalogues. Good working knowledge of data privacy and protection principles (e.g. GDPR) as they relate to system and data design. Strong stakeholder management skills across business, IT, and legal functions.
Desirable: Experience specifically with People & Culture / HR data and employee lifecycle data. Familiarity with data governance tooling, metadata management, or lineage tools. Exposure to analytics or reporting use cases for P&C data. Certifications in data management, privacy, or governance (e.g. DAMA, CIPP/E, SAP-related).
Workplace type: Remote Working
