The Atlassian Consultant is responsible for designing, implementing, and governing enterprise‑scale Atlassian platforms that support Agile delivery, DevOps, ITSM and cross‑functional collaboration. This role provides architectural leadership across all Atlassian applications (Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Bitbucket, Guard, etc.) and partners with business, product, engineering, and operations teams to design scalable, secure, and performant solutions aligned to organisational goals. The role will also be the solution expert in sales and pre‑sales processes, shaping innovative and pragmatic solutions to customer needs, providing accurate solution estimates, and enabling the wider sales team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Platform Architecture & Solution Design: Design and lead end‑to‑end Atlassian platform architectures (Cloud), ensuring scalability, resilience, and integration with enterprise ecosystems for both new Cloud implementation and migration from Data‑centre and Server versions to Cloud version. Translate business and technology needs into structured platform designs and technical specifications. Lead the design and development of new Atlassian implementation. Lead the end‑to‑end cloud transformation, including developing comprehensive migration strategies, timelines, and resource plans. Act as the primary technical point of contact for all project related activities and resolve technical blockers. Assess current environments (Jira, Confluence, etc.) to define architecture, identify risks, dependencies, potential challenges, and establish mitigation plans. Design scalable, secure, and cost‑efficient solutions, creating architectural documentation including integration flows and data models. Define and enforce governance, best practices, and security measures for configurations, customisations, and user management. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the team members.
- Governance, Standards & Best Practices: Establish governance frameworks including workflows, work item types, user groups, permissions, automation, naming conventions, and configuration guidelines. Define and enforce guardrails for Marketplace app usage, versioning, and lifecycle management. Ensure compliance with enterprise security, audit, and regulatory requirements. Lead Atlassian Guard implementations to improve security posture using SSO, MFA and centralised user provisioning.
- Integration & Automation: Architect integrations using REST APIs, webhooks, and middleware (e.g., Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, GitLab/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, identity providers, observability tools, and data platforms). Build reusable automation patterns using Jira automation, ScriptRunner, PowerScripts, or Forge. Guide team members to build agents using Forge.
- Performance, Reliability & Operations: Conduct platform health checks and performance assessments. Define SLAs, monitoring dashboards, incident procedures, and backup/restore mechanisms. Optimise large‑scale instances (10,000+ users, multi‑project environments, large customisations). Lead troubleshooting of complex platform or workflow issues.
- Advisory & Stakeholder Management: Act as the subject matter expert for all Atlassian tools, advising senior stakeholders on platform strategy, licensing models, Cloud Enterprise adoption, and cost optimisation. Drive organisational adoption, coach teams, and guide product owners, administrators, and developers. Facilitate workshops with Agile coaches, engineering leaders, and ITSM/operations stakeholders.
- Delivery Leadership: Lead or oversee Atlassian implementation squads (architects, admins, developers). Provide quality assurance for Atlassian configurations, integrations, and customisations. Contribute to proposal work, pre‑sales, customer roadmaps, and platform assessments.
What experience you’ll bring:
- Deep architecture experience across Atlassian Cloud and/or Data Center platforms.
- Expert‑level knowledge of: Jira Software, JSM, Confluence, Bitbucket, Atlassian Analytics; Advanced Roadmaps, Assets (CMDB), Automation; ScriptRunner / Forge / Connect app frameworks; Marketplace apps (e.g., Xray, BigPicture, Insight/Assets, Tempo).
- Strong understanding of Agile scaling models (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, LeSS).
- Proven experience architecting integrations via REST APIs, event‑based automation, and identity/security frameworks.
- Experience with CI/CD, DevOps toolchains, and software development lifecycle practices.
Soft Skills:
- Strong consulting, facilitation, and communication skills.
- Ability to lead multi‑disciplinary delivery teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management—including senior leadership and technical teams.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to design pragmatic, scalable solutions.
- Ability to communicate with client leaders in the sales process.
- Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to contribute to solution sizing and deal shaping.
- Strong influencing skills, with the ability to tell a clear and persuasive solution story tailored to different audiences.
- Adaptable and comfortable working in ambiguous, fast‑paced pre‑sales environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Atlassian Certified Expert (ACE), ACP or equivalent.
- Certifications in Agile, SAFe, ITIL, or DevOps practices.
- Experience delivering solutions for large enterprises (5,000+ users).
- Experience in regulated industries (finance, telecoms, government) is a bonus.
- Experience in sales and pre‑sales activities as part of a consulting organisation is preferred.
