A highly innovative IT services company is seeking an experienced IBM Hardware Engineer for their Banking client in Sheffield. The role involves taking ownership across mainframe technologies, including:

  • IBM Power and Storage systems
  • IBM i PowerHA
  • LPM migration toolkit design and implementation

The IBM Hardware Engineer will build and configure new z16 machines with assisted documentation and will be instrumental in the migration activities from z14 to z16 models. Candidates should have sound technical fundamentals in managing mainframe hardware models with HCD, IODF, and HMC configuration activities. Responsibilities also include overseeing racking, stacking, channel configuration, and powering of equipment in Data Centres.

This opportunity offers tremendous scope to innovate within a highly accomplished team. Candidates must have the permissions to live and work freely in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available.

IBM Hardware Engineer permanent profile required:

  • Proven experience with IBM Power and Storage systems and mainframe hardware
  • Hands-on experience in building and configuring new z16 machines
  • Demonstrated involvement in z14 to z16 migration activities
  • Strong knowledge of mainframe hardware management tools and interfaces (HCD, IODF, HMC)
  • Experience overseeing the physical setup (racking, stacking, channel configuration, power-up) of data centre equipment
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities and the capacity to work independently as well as part of a focused team
  • Experience in creating and managing detailed technical documentation
  • Bright and highly collaborative with a “get-things-done” attitude to problem solving and technical challenges
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer/Electrical/Software Engineering or similar
