Location: University Hospital of North Tees Town, Stockton-on-Tees.

Contract: 12 months fixed term.

Hours: 36 hours per week (12‑hour shifts day/night).

Salary: £32,073 – £39,043 pro‑rata per annum.

The Intensive Care Staff Nurse will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care of patients requiring level 2 and level 3 care under indirect supervision from senior staff. General and specialised direct nursing care is expected in accordance with policies, procedures, and protocols of the organisation.

Main Duties

  • Supervise and support the multidisciplinary care team, provide skilled nursing care to level 2 and level 3 patients, and assist in advanced respiratory, cardiovascular, and renal support.
  • The unit manages ten level 3 and six level 2 patients and offers an Outreach service.

Responsibilities

  • Use effective communication in clinical practice with a caring attitude.
  • Utilise communication aids for complex patients who find it difficult to communicate.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ensure communication takes into account level of understanding, culture, and background.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication channels within the team.
  • Actively manage barriers to communication to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Encourage family participation in care planning.
  • Demonstrate required English language proficiency.

Person Specification / Shortlisting Criteria

  • Qualifications: Registered RN with a valid NMC PIN.
  • Experience: Experience in a hospital setting.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • IT Proficiency: Competence in electronic patient records and healthcare IT systems.
  • Skills: Proficiency in advanced life support, ventilator management, and critical care monitoring.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Adaptability: Ability to remain calm and effective in high‑pressure situations.
  • Leadership: Experience mentoring junior staff or leading nursing teams in a critical care environment.
