We are seeking a Band 5 podiatrist to join an autonomous, innovative team specialising in foot and lower limb pathologies. You will use clinical reasoning, critical thinking and reflection to support assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning, and to develop and implement individualised care programmes for a wide range of patients, including those with neuropathy, chronic disease, vascular impairment and wound management.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose and treat a broad spectrum of podiatric problems: systemic diseases, vascular and neurological disorders, dermatological conditions, chronic pathologies, emergency treatments, stable wound management, basic biomechanical conditions, paediatric conditions, nail and skin pathologies.
  • Provide care in multiple settings including clinical, domiciliary, hospital, nursing homes and other external locations.
  • Apply evidence‑based practice to assess, treat, implement, evaluate and document podiatric care.
  • Follow care plans issued by Band 6 podiatrists and provide nursing support where necessary.
  • Write and follow care plans for healthcare assistants; coordinate referrals and escalations for deteriorating foot health.
  • Perform biomechanics assessment and management for simple biomechanical conditions; prescribe, fit and evaluate insoles/orthotics and exercise regimes.
  • Carry out nail surgery assessment and selective surgery procedures.
  • Mentor healthcare assistants, student podiatrists, and support specialist caseloads during periods of increased demand.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, appraisal sessions, 1:1s and mandatory training; maintain HCPC CPD requirements.
  • Ensure infection prevention and control measures are followed; undertake annual IPC training.
  • Adapt to extended hours and additional duties as required to meet service demands.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Podiatry with HCPC registration.
  • Local Analgesia Administration Certificate.
  • Post‑graduate training; PGCE or equivalent teaching or mentoring qualification is desirable.
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary podiatry setting and competence across the full range of podiatric services.

Location & Working Hours

University Hospital of North Tees, Stockton‑on‑Tees. Full time 37.5 hours per week (8.30 to 4.30).

Salary & Contract

£32,073 – £39,043 pro rata per annum, Band 5 NHS AfC. Permanent contract.
