Location: UK-wide with regular customer site travel
Salary: Up to Β£60,000 + Bonus
Contract: Full-time, permanent
This isnt a parcel-selling role.
Were looking for a commercially sharp freight, transport or logistics Business Development Manager who knows how to get out into the market, get on-site with customers and understand how their operation actually works.
Someone who is comfortable walking a warehouse, distribution centre, trade counter or retail operation, speaking with the people running it and identifying where a better transport solution can save time, improve service or reduce cost.
Our client is a fast-growing, tech-enabled logistics business building its presence across the UK.
The technology is important. But this role isnt about selling software and it isnt about shifting parcels.
Its about understanding freight, routes, vehicles, capacity, service levels and customer operations then putting together a commercially viable logistics solution and winning the business.
What you'll be doing
Winning new business.
Youll build your own pipeline across trade, retail, distribution and other businesses with genuine final-mile and transport requirements.
Getting out on-site.
This is not a role for someone who wants to spend five days a week selling over Teams. Youll visit prospective customers, understand their operation first-hand and build relationships with the people responsible for getting goods where they need to go.
Understanding the freight.
What is being moved? Where is it going? How frequently? What vehicle is required? Where are the inefficiencies? What is the customer currently paying?
Youll get into the detail before proposing a solution.
Building transport solutions.
Youll work with customers to develop fixed routes, scheduled deliveries, recurring transport requirements and bespoke final-mile solutions.
Owning the commercial conversation.
Youll understand pricing, margin and contribution and be comfortable negotiating deals that work commercially for both sides.
Managing the full sales cycle.
Prospecting, meetings, site visits, solution design, commercials, negotiation, close and initial implementation youll own it.
Working closely with operations.
Once you win the business, youll make sure what has been sold can actually be delivered. Youll work closely with the operational team to get new accounts up and running properly.
What we're looking for
We are particularly interested in speaking with people coming from freight forwarding, transport, road freight, distribution or contract logistics .
Youll ideally bring:
5+ years' experience in logistics, freight or transport business development
A strong track record of winning new B2B customers
Experience selling transport solutions rather than simply parcel volume
The ability to identify and develop recurring routes and regular transport requirements
Confidence conducting customer site visits and understanding operational environments
Experience dealing with trade, retail, distribution, manufacturing or similar customers
Strong commercial understanding around rates, margin and profitability
A genuine new-business mentality
The confidence to open doors, build relationships and close deals
The ability to work independently across a UK-wide territory
Experience within freight forwarding, road freight, pallet networks, general haulage, dedicated transport or final-mile logistics would be particularly relevant.
The person
Were looking for someone who likes being close to the customer.
You could be walking around a distribution centre in the morning, sitting down with an Operations Director to redesign a delivery solution in the afternoon and negotiating commercials with the MD the following day.
You'll be commercially driven, but operationally curious.
You won't just ask a prospect how many shipments they send.
You'll want to understand what they're moving, how they're moving it, where the problems are and how you can build something better.
Why join?
This is an opportunity to join a growing logistics business with the technology and operational infrastructure already in place, but with significant headroom to grow its UK customer base.
You'll have the autonomy to build relationships, develop new markets and win meaningful accounts without the layers and restrictions of a traditional corporate logistics business.
Up to Β£70,000 base salary + bonus. Remote UK-wide, with regular travel to customer sites.
Apply with your CV and we'll come back to you quickly.
All applications will be treated in confidence, with full details of the business and opportunity discussed during the initial conversation. xohmjla
