- Bring strong commercial awareness - identifying growth opportunities, monitoring market trends, and maintaining a customer-centric approach.
- Lead and develop the transport and maintenance team, prioritising upskilling and future capability.
- Own day-to-day logistics performance - planning, route management, fleet utilisation, and service levels.
- Champion compliance and safety, including Operator Licence requirements, driver hours, Working Time Directive, tachograph management, and vehicle maintenance.
- Drive commercial performance - managing logistics costs, improving cost-to-serve, and identifying efficiency opportunities.
- Use data and KPIs to improve visibility and support better planning and decision-making.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen capacity and operational resilience.
- Work closely with Directors and wider teams as a senior operational partner.
What We're Looking For:

- CPC Transport Manager qualification, with the capability to support Operator Licence compliance at senior level.
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation, Operator Licence obligations, driver hours, Working Time Directive, tachograph management, and vehicle compliance.
- Extensive experience leading transport, logistics, or haulage operations within a fast-paced commercial environment.
- Proven track record managing a sizeable fleet and leading multi-disciplinary transport teams (drivers, managers, coordinators).
- Experience managing budgets, KPIs, service levels, and cost control.
- Strong commercial awareness, balancing customer service, compliance, efficiency, and profitability.
- Confident people management skills, including coaching, performance management, and employee relations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, comfortable working closely with Directors and senior leaders.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills, able to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Competent with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and business management/CRM/ERP systems.
- Experience leading operational change, process improvement, or system implementation projects.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of heavy vehicle maintenance requirements and fleet availability planning.
