Role Purpose
The HSE Engineer is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) compliance across hyperscale colocation data centre projects, covering all construction, infrastructure, and commissioning activities. This includes mechanical, electrical, and civil works associated with mission-critical facilities. The role ensures compliance with UK and German regulations while aligning with global hyperscale safety standards and best practices.
Due to the increasing complexity of hyperscale data centre designs, this role carries enhanced responsibility across all project phases. Modern facilities incorporate highly integrated mechanical and electrical systems, dense utility routing, and stringent uptime requirements, which elevate risk profiles and demand more sophisticated HSE oversight. There is a significantly greater emphasis on commissioning and handover activities, where live system interfaces, testing under operational conditions, and multi-disciplinary coordination introduce additional hazards. As such, the HSE Engineer must drive excellence across all work streams—design, construction, and commissioning—ensuring consistent standards, proactive risk management, and seamless safety integration throughout the project lifecycle.
