NT Engineering & Manufacturing are proud to be recruiting on behalf of Smith & McLaurin, a well-established manufacturing business currently going through a period of growth. These Machine Operator positions span two departments — the Slitting & Finishing department and the Coating Process team.
You will start as a Machine Operator and work through a structured 12-week training programme. The business is investing in this team and in the right people who join it. If you have the attitude and ability, there is a genuine path forward.
Shift Pattern
The shift pattern is one of the real attractions here. 12-hour shifts on a 2-week rotation — a long week of 48 hours followed by a short week of 32 hours, averaging 39.6 hours per week. No weekends. No Friday back-shifts. This pattern gives you proper blocks of time off throughout the month. If work-life balance matters to you, this is worth paying attention to.

Who We're Looking For?
- Experience working in a factory or manufacturing environment, ideally with larger industrial machinery
- Previous semi-skilled machine operator experience, or strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
- Able to operate equipment with minimal supervision once trained
- Conscientious and detail-oriented — able to work to production targets and quality standards
- Comfortable working as part of a team in a high-output production environment
- Basic IT skills — data input into spreadsheets (IBM AS400 system training provided on site)
- Forklift licence advantageous, particularly with pole attachment experience
- Flexible and willing to do a reasonable amount of overtime, sometimes at 1–2 days’ notice
- Positive attitude and a genuine drive to develop and progress within the business
