Tamworth Rural and Regional Hospital is seeking to appoint a full-time staff specialist to join its integrated cancer service. The successful applicant will work within well-established, modern facilities at the North West Cancer Centre (NWCC) outpatient facility, as well as the inpatient facility of Tamworth Hospital. Tamworth Hospital, with a $260 million acute services redevelopment completed in 2015, is equipped with 348 treatment spaces and is the major Rural Referral Hospital of the north west of NSW. NWCC, co-located with Tamworth Hospital, is an integrated cancer outpatient service delivering medical oncology, radiation oncology, and haematology care, with facilities including 12 treatment chairs. The infusion service performs over 2,400 procedures each year, supporting patients across the Northwest and New England regions.

Responsibilities

  • You will join a team of medical oncologists focused on providing evidence-based, holistic care across a wide range of cancer management in the Hunter New England region.
  • You are expected to participate in medical oncology services, including on-calls and contribute to the general medical roster as required.
  • You are also required to demonstrate a strong commitment to research, teaching, and supervision of junior medical officers.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within and across teams are essential.

Mandatory requirements

  • Admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth and on-call services as determined and required by HNELHD.
  • Attendance and availability during rostered work hours and whilst on-call including clinical handover, clinical supervision, teaching and for emergency and routine care as determined and required by HNELHD.
  • Provision of education and research as determined and required by HNELHD.
  • Primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
  • Evidence of being a medical expert, demonstrated by recent and comprehensive experience in Medical Oncology – NWCC is a Level 4 site.
  • Evidence of being a scholar, maintains medical professional development and has the ability to assist other staff, including trainees in the acquisition and development of knowledge.
  • Evidence of being a skilled communicator, including both oral and written skills, communicating with patients, students, other health professionals and the public.
  • Evidence of being a collaborator, including the ability to network and operate within an interdisciplinary framework and to work with other stakeholders in a variety of settings.
  • Evidence of being a manager, including ability to be flexible and cope with a changing health system, past leadership and management experience and previous safety and quality improvement activities.
  • Evidence of being a professional, including continued professional development, peer review and other forms of clinical governance.
  • Evidence of being an advocate, including contributions to improving individual and societal health.
