Where you'll be working

The Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC) is the primary entity for clinical governance and safety assurance across NSW Health. We lead and monitor health system safety by embedding and maturing NSW Health safety system model and strategically partnering with health entities and consumers to foster safe care. The CEC has a system wide leadership role in safety and improvement, with a focus on learning. It provides independent guidance and advice on clinical safety, and responds rapidly when system‐wide issues arise.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Associate Director Patient Safety, the Senior Clinical Lead will bring expertise in workplace learning, curriculum design and a deep understanding of patient safety, to lead the development and ongoing refinement of the educational framework and training programs that will build the knowledge and skills in incident management methodologies, critical thinking and leadership skills to support effective implementation of the Public Health Act and NSW Incident Management Policy, and related policies and practices. The role will also bring expertise to the continuous improvement of the CEC Academy Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Curriculum and Learning pathways.

The Senior Clinical Lead Patient Safety will provide leadership, direction and governance of patient safety projects within the CEC. This includes, but is not limited to, incident management, serious adverse event reviews, education and training, policies and procedures and data systems. This role will provide expert advice in relation to key strategic priorities and deliverables with the patient safety directorate and CEC.

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant health discipline (or equivalent) combined with extensive experience and expertise in developing and delivering education frameworks, training programs, and resources within complex healthcare environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary patient safety principles, practices, and related policy and legislation governing NSW Health incident management and service delivery.
  • Proven ability to lead, influence, and implement patient safety and clinical quality improvement initiatives at scale to prevent adverse events and enhance patient outcomes.
  • Exceptional analytical capability, including experience in literature reviews, applying research, conducting complex data analysis and interpretation, preparing high‐level reports, and assessing risks and implications.
  • Advanced proficiency in a range of software applications, with expert skills in Microsoft Office products.
  • Demonstrated expertise in preparing high‐quality reports, briefs, and executive‐level communications, complemented by excellent presentation skills for diverse audiences at all levels.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build strong professional relationships, collaborate effectively, and influence stakeholders to achieve shared goals and drive improvement initiatives.
