Where you’ll be working
As Nurse Manager of Critical Care Services, you’ll step into a key leadership role at Tamworth Hospital, a major referral facility within Hunter New England Local Health District. Tamworth Hospital is a B1 facility providing a wide range of acute services including emergency, surgical, medical, maternity, and mental health care.

You’ll be based in the vibrant regional city of Tamworth, NSW – known for its welcoming community, affordable lifestyle, and scenic countryside. Tamworth offers the perfect balance of professional challenge and relaxed regional living, with the opportunity to make a lasting impact on patients and the community alike.

About the role
You will lead the Critical Care Services, overseeing the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Cardiac Cath Lab (CCL) and Trauma Service. These units deliver advanced, multidisciplinary care for patients requiring close monitoring and life-support interventions, while also being networked with regional ICUs, CCUs, CCLs, and Trauma services to ensure seamless care across the district.

Your week will be a balance of operational leadership and cultural stewardship:

  • Supporting ICU, CCU and CCL Nursing Leaders through daily huddles, patient reviews, and staffing oversight.
  • Guiding, mentoring, and empowering staff – from junior nurses to senior team members – to ensure excellence in practice.
  • Leading governance, safety, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Acting as the calm in the storm during clinical or operational escalations.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, allied health, and executives to align care priorities.
  • Shaping the hospital-wide direction of critical care services and contributing to regional strategies.

About you
You are a confident and compassionate leader with a strong clinical foundation and a passion for guiding others. You bring:

  • Proven leadership experience in high-acuity environments such as ICU/HDU.
  • Advanced communication skills to connect with staff, patients, families, and executives.
  • Expertise in workforce management, including rostering, performance development, and succession planning.
  • A commitment to safety, quality, and evidence-based practice.
  • Emotional intelligence and resilience – the ability to remain calm, empathetic, and solutions-focused.
  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse, with relevant postgraduate qualifications or extensive critical care experience.

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse.
