Role Summary

A new year brings fresh possibilities — and with it, a rare opportunity to step into a full‑time Level 5 leadership position on a 12‑month contract. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact across the South Western Sydney Local Health District by guiding a dedicated team committed to improving the lives of those affected by substance use. As the Community Counselling and Intake Team Leader, you will lead a diverse group of Allied Health professionals working across SWSLHD, as well as the multidisciplinary Intake team based at Campbelltown. Your leadership will help shape high‑quality, patient‑centred care within Drug Health Services, supporting consumers through compassionate, evidence‑based treatment. In this role, you will have the opportunity to drive service development, implement innovative improvements, and strengthen partnerships that enhance quality outcomes across the district. You’ll play a key role in building a responsive, collaborative service that supports both staff and clients to thrive. Are You the Right Fit?

We are looking for a driven and skilled professional who is ready to take on a meaningful leadership role within Drug Health Services. To be successful, you will hold a recognised qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or Community Welfare, along with current AHPRA registration or eligibility for membership with the appropriate professional association. Your background will include strong clinical leadership experience, ideally gained within Drug and Alcohol settings, where you have guided teams through complex clinical environments. You will bring extensive experience in community counselling, supported by a solid understanding of evidence‑based treatments that inform best practice and future service development. Alternatively, leadership experience within an Intake setting will also be highly valued. As the service prepares for further development in 2026, this role offers you a genuine opportunity to step in, contribute to growth, and truly make your mark on the direction of the team and the service as a whole. To excel, you will also demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills, allowing you to lead with confidence, build strong partnerships, and support both staff and clients with clarity and professionalism. Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification as a Registered Psychologist, Social Worker, Counsellor, or Welfare Officer, which provides eligibility for membership with a professional organisation and or current registration with AHPRA where applicable.
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical skills in assessment, case management and counselling within a drug and alcohol service.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of the harm reduction approach to drug and alcohol issues and demonstrated experience in the provision of interventions with drug dependent clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a multidisciplinary team of clinicians providing drug and alcohol interventions.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of clinical supervision to staff and or students.
  • High level communication skills including the ability to prepare statistical and technical reports.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading quality improvement initiatives.
  • Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver’s license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner’s licenses are not permitted.
