Working for an Electrical or Mechanical Sub‑Contractor handling Design & Technical Management. Do you have pre or post contract experience? Have you been involved in tenders but then also put the theory into reality based on site? As the MEP Design Manager you will be responsible for managing the design, coordination, and delivery of all mechanical, electrical, and public health (MEP) systems on MAJOR Data Centre Projects worth £40‑250 Million. You will be expected to make an impact whether that's bidding on a major project, sitting on a live project or handling 2 smaller but equally challenging scopes. The energy, attitude and focus from the owners to the Senior Leadership team is simply infectious. This role ensures that highly resilient, energy‑efficient, and compliant systems are delivered in line with program, cost, and operational requirements. You will act as the key interface between consultants, subcontractors, and construction teams, ensuring designs meet mission‑critical uptime standards.
Key Responsibilities / Design Leadership
- Manage MEP design from concept through to commissioning and handover.
- Oversee design of critical systems including:
- LV/MV electrical distribution
- UPS systems and battery storage
- Backup generation (diesel generators)
- Cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH, chillers, liquid cooling where applicable)
- BMS and controls
- Fire detection and suppression systems
- Ensure compliance with Uptime Institute Tier standards (Tier II‑IV) where applicable.
- Coordination & interface with CSA teams.
- Manage design, drawings & specifications.
- Working with specialist vendors (e.g., UPS, generators, cooling OEMs).
- Proactively manage & promote BIM / Clash detection.
- Support procurement of key MEP packages:
- Electrical and mechanical subcontractors
- Specialist suppliers (UPS, chillers, generators)
- Review subcontractor designs and ensure alignment with employer's requirements.
- Assess technical submissions during tender stage.
- Provide technical support during installation.
- Lead or support commissioning strategy.
- Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations/BSI standards (BS/EN)/CIBSE guidelines / Uptime Institute Tier classifications.
Key Skills & Experience Essential
- Degree in Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering / A clear background that shows loyalty, training & success.
- Proven experience for a MEP Sub‑Contractor or main contractor in a or D&B environment.
Software Skills Needed
- BIM tools (Revit, Navisworks)
- Load calculation and simulation tools
- Microsoft Office (Excel for technical/commercial analysis)
