We're looking for a hands-on Health & Safety Advisor to join the Principal Contractor team on a large Distribution Centre build. This is a site-based role, focused on day-to-day safety management, visible leadership, and keeping standards high across a busy, fast-moving construction and fit-out environment.
You will be on the ground, walking the job, engaging with supervisors and operatives, challenging unsafe behaviours, and making sure work is done the right way — every day. You will actively support the HSE Lead, who will help your development into a No1 safety lead moving forward.
Responsibilities- Be a visible H&S presence on site, leading by example
- Carry out daily site walks, safety inspections, and engagement with the workforce
- Review, approve, and challenge RAMS and permits before work starts
- Monitor subcontractor activities and stop unsafe work where required
- Manage high-risk activities: working at height, lifting operations, temporary works, MHE, traffic management, and logistics
- Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings
- Support supervisors and site management with practical H&S advice
- Lead investigations into incidents and near misses, ensuring actions are closed out
- Maintain site H&S records and support audits and inspections
- Ensure Principal Contractor duties under CDM 2015 are met on a day-to-day basis
- Strong, practical experience in a site-based Health & Safety role with a Principal Contractor
- Experience on distribution centres, warehouses, logistics or large industrial builds
- Confident managing subcontractors and challenging unsafe practices
- Good working knowledge of CDM 2015 and construction H&S legislation
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) - essential
- SMSTS / SSSTS - desirable
- IOSH / CMIOSH - desirable
- Strong financial backing and highly profitable
- Major in-house capabilities across construction disciplines
