Good governance processes, behaviours and expectations underpin sound decision-making, effective boards, and rigorous accountability. But we also see the governance function as an active enabler of a dynamic, high-performing organisation, which does things properly by default.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring we have best-in-class, efficient and transparent governance and leadership policies, practices and ways of working which drive organisational purpose and contribute to high performance. A significant element of the job is focused on compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, ensuring the smooth running of the Trustee Board and associated sub-committees, and supporting informed decision-making across the organisation.

You’ll be an important part of the executive leadership team of the NSPCC, so we’ll expect you to be alert for organisation-wide risks, opportunities and challenges, and drive improvement by showing us where we can collaborate and integrate more effectively between teams. And you’ll play a vital role in fostering a culture of accountability and transparency.

You’ll also oversee the Chief Executive’s office, ensuring it is run efficiently and acting as key contact for a range of external stakeholders and supporters. The postholder will also oversee the internal governance of the NSPCC, ensuring that the link between directorates, Executive Leadership Team and the board is strong, and that we are continuously looking for ways to improve our internal governance.

As our organisational lead on governance issues, you’ll provide expert advice and support to the Chief Executive, Chair, Trustees and subcommittee members, as well as driving innovation and a culture of continuous improvement. The role will also be responsible for the appointment, induction, development and appraisal of trustees. This role will make a direct, immediate impact on our work and on the children we help.
