Working for NSG, NSG Environmental Ltd has been delivering work programmes in the nuclear industry for over 40 years. Traditionally in the areas of decommissioning and waste management, NSG now has a broad customer base and provides a wide spectrum of services across the nuclear project lifecycle, ranging from expert consultancy support, R&D and engineering design to rekit and refurbishment, site installation services and high-hazard physical decommissioning works, amongst others. This work is delivered at NSG’s own offices and purpose-built facilities and nuclear sites across the UK. The delivery and management of these projects and programmes of work is carried out by a skilled workforce composed of both white-collar and blue-collar personnel in technical, administrative, and physical roles. The Role
To work as part of a decommissioning team under the direction of a Site Supervisor to deliver projects which will involve decommissioning, decontamination, size reduction and waste management activities.
Key Objectives
- Study and Training
- Review skill levels and update them as necessary to competently carry out the tasks required of a Decommissioning Operative. This will include:
- Basic Health and Safety Training
- Introduction to Radiation Protection / Safety Practices
- Additional training requirements specific to a particular role or site.
- Project delivery and Operational Support
- Carry out tasks as required for specific decommissioning projects, including:
- Plant and equipment size reduction
- Plant and equipment decontamination
- Building/room/floor decontamination
- Support to HP monitors during waste packaging and processing.
- Other work areas could involve plant operations, installation and support to commissioning.
- Complete and maintain as necessary all associated records and documentation.
- Internal Communication and Liaison
- Contribute to the development of business by internal referral and communication of appropriate information and intelligence.
Person Specification
- Qualifications
- GCSE at ‘C’ grade or above in English, Maths and in Science or technical subject
- Completion of further/higher education in a related field
- Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace or equivalent - Relevant training will be provided if required

- Familiar with site work environments
- Skills & Abilities
- Able to read and write messages, interpret and carry instruction
- Maintain simple records and documents in a readable format
- Utilisation of technical or scientific data

Package - Staff only
- Hours - 37.5 hours per week
- Overtime – 37.5-60 hours per week – Time and half
- Overtime – 60+ hours per week or Sundays – Double time
