The Role
To be appointed as RPA to NSG Environmental Ltd within the meaning, definitions and requirements of the Ionising Regulations 2017
To provide technical, radiological protection, health and safety knowledge and experience to support the Companies activities and its ability to deliver projects, whilst ensuring we satisfy all legal requirements, and protect the technical integrity, expertise, and competency of the Company.
Key Objectives
Technical Competency and Requirements
- To hold current in date certification as Radiation Protection Advisor.
- To be able to provide suitable radiation protection and advice to the company which works in the nuclear and industrial sectors undertaking decommissioning and radioactive waste management activities.
- To review company policy, processes and operations to ensure that the legal requirements and best practice are being employed in the radiation protection management.
- To undertake radiological assessment and studies as appropriate to support project work undertaken by the Company. Prepare, originate as necessary, and present proposals and reports for submission to clients.
- To liaise with clients and their appointed RPA as necessary.
- Where appropriate assist in the development of new services and equipment which the Company wishes to place in the market.
- Provide radiation protection, advice and training to Company staff, project team members, sub-contractors, suppliers and clients as appropriate, by means of formal explanation and training sessions.
- To have a sound understanding of radiometrics, activity assessment by suitable instrument measurement, doserate predictions and health physics instrument use and selection.
- Ideally to have a sound understanding of radioactive waste management and to hold certification as a Radioactive Waste Advisor (RWA). To provide radioactive waste management support to company project and clients.
- Ideally to have an understanding of the radiological protection controls and processes involved in nuclear decommissioning.
Project Delivery Support
Preparation and Documentation
- Prepare, originate and present proposals/presentations/reports for use internally or direct to client.
- Prepare and deliver presentations on radiation protection to project meetings / design review meetings etc.
Liaison
- Liaise with client, internal and group company colleagues as necessary to:
- Originate and submit approved reports for the clients
- Attend and contribute to project meetings with clients.
- Design, prepare and present solutions.
- Respond to any appropriate enquiry with an informed source of advise.
Business Development
- Promulgate and promote the Company’s reputation, expertise and capability through attendance, contribution and submission to media articles, exhibitions, professional institutions, client meetings, external events, inward visits, and through professional bodies / colleagues etc.
Resource Management
Communication and Support
- Effectively communicate with all members of the project to ensure dissemination of all information necessary.
- Provide support, input and interpretation to project team members, subcontractors, suppliers and clients as appropriate.
- Ensure and promote effective communication and working between disciplines to support the overall delivery of the project objective.
Bid Support
Bid Documentation
- Action appropriate response to client or internal colleague enquiry and ensure completion of all necessary documentation.
- Ensure all Bid documentation is submitted appropriately and to time.
Tender / Contract Reviews
- Support Tender Review Team activity and Contract Reviews through the provision of relevant and informed technical or commercial information.
Commercial Awareness / Client and Business Liaison
Commercial Awareness
- Be aware of Company business plan and to promote NSG to ensure continuity of business within the context of that plan.
- Contribute to the development of business and success of current projects by the internal referral and communication of appropriate information and intelligence.
- Recognise the potential impact of own actions for the Company, clients and suppliers and act in appreciation of this at all times.
Client and Business Liaison
- Work pro-actively to ensure clients are kept informed and aware of project status throughout.
- Maintain effective working relationships across all Company, Site and Function Heads.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- RPA Certification - Essential
- Science / Engineering Based Degree - Desirable
- RWA Certification - Desirable
- Membership of appropriate technical / professional body - Desirable
- IOSH Managing Safely or Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace or equivalent - Relevant training will be provided if required
Experience & Knowledge
- Minimum 5+ years’ nuclear/industrial experience in Radiation Protection - Essential
- Waste Management Skills - Desirable
- Used to dealing with confidential and commercial information - Desirable
- Familiar with integrated management system operating procedures and requirements etc. - Desirable
Skills & Abilities
- Competent user of MS Office - Essential
- Able to organise and prioritise own work - Essential
- Maintenance of database and physical records and files - Desirable
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of colleagues at all levels and with external stakeholders and contractors - Desirable
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 / 14001 & 45001 - Desirable

Hours - 37.5 hours per week
Overtime – 37.5-60hours per week – Time and half
