NSG Environmental Ltd has been delivering work programmes in the nuclear industry for over 40 years. Traditionally in the areas of decommissioning and waste management, NSG now has a broad customer base and provides a wide spectrum of services across the nuclear project lifecycle, ranging from expert consultancy support, R&D and engineering design to rekit and refurbishment, site installation services and high-hazard physical decommissioning works, amongst others. This work is delivered at NSG’s own offices and purpose-built facilities and nuclear sites across the UK. The delivery and management of these projects and programmes of work is carried out by a skilled workforce composed of both white-collar and blue-collar personnel in technical, administrative, and physical roles. The NSG Engineering Manager is technically accountable to the NSG Head of Engineering and is responsible for managing the Engineering teams to deliver technical solutions. The Senior Engineering Manager will be allocated to a project or a portfolio of projects where they will be accountable to the Programme/Project Manager for project technical delivery.
Key Objectives, Accountabilities and Responsibilities- Accountable for the implementation of the technical solutions.
- Responsible for working alongside Project Managers to deliver projects.
- Provide Engineering guidance to projects.
- Responsible for providing Engineering SQEP resource (including Design Authority) to meet project requirements.
- Ensure Engineering team are working productively.
- Support Project Managers in identifying project deliverables/durations.
- Hold Engineering team to account.
- Ensures compliance with QSHEW.
- Checking & Approval (dependant on level) of Design/Documents.
- Support bid development and provide guidance on timescales and resource availability.
- Engagement with key stakeholders and client.

The Senior Engineering Manager will report technically to the NSG Head of Engineering for:
- Significant issues related to delivery of technical solutions.
- Significant issues related to the delivery of customer specifications.
- Issues related to the required resources to deliver customer requirements.
- Technical issues that may have a commercial, safety, security, quality, environmental or legal impact upon the Company.
- Overall performance of Engineering team with regards to remuneration or discipline.
The Senior Engineering Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the Engineers are:
- SQEP to perform their project duties required of them.
- Fully adverse with the scope and expectations of the project deliverables being produced.
- Fulfilling the project scope requirements to a suitable level of quality.
- Accurately reporting on progress and raising concerns to project managers at the earliest opportunity.
- Working to NSGs (or customer equivalent) QSHEW.
- Incorporating Learning from Experience (LFE) from across the business.
The Senior Engineering Manager will:
- Work with Project Managers to develop programmes in terms of deliverables and durations.
- Work with the project managers to allocate SQEP resource to deliver project technical requirements.
- Raise issues that may affect programme or cost at the earliest opportunity.
Qualifications
- Degree or HND in engineering discipline - Essential
- CDM Regulations - Desirable
- PhD or MSc in related field - Desirable
- NEBOSH - Desirable
- Membership of appropriate technical / professional body - Essential
- IOSH Managing Safely - Relevant training will be provided if required
Experience & Knowledge
- 10 years’ experience in a project delivery related role ideally associated with decommissioning, waste management and/or environmental remediation - Essential
- Experience of managing delivery on multiple projects in a lead / senior role - Essential
- Direct and indirect control of individuals within a project delivery / support function - Essential
- Familiar with recognised quality system & requirements - Essential
- Origination and utilisation of management information - Essential
- Ability to achieve results through a team of specialist / technical personnel - Essential
- Contribution to continued business success, strategy and future growth - Essential
- Contract negotiation and legal awareness - Desirable
- Used to dealing with confidential and commercial information - Essential
