NSG Environmental Ltd has been delivering work programmes in the nuclear industry for over 40 years. Traditionally in the areas of decommissioning and waste management, NSG now has a broad customer base and provides a wide spectrum of services across the nuclear project lifecycle, ranging from expert consultancy support, R&D and engineering design to rekit and refurbishment, site installation services and high-hazard physical decommissioning works, amongst others. This work is delivered at NSG’s own offices and purpose-built facilities and nuclear sites across the UK. The delivery and management of these projects and programmes of work is carried out by a skilled workforce composed of both white-collar and blue-collar personnel in technical, administrative, and physical roles.

The Role

To prepare, originate and present technical information in such a way as to allow others to be informed as to background, risk, safety, justification, change or step‑by‑step engineering sequence to/of:

  • Operation
  • Plant
  • Procedure

Based on research, analysis and evaluation of technical / engineering theory, data and information.

Key Objectives

Document Origination & Retention

  • Use personal knowledge and experience and undertake research to support the formulation, collation, analysis and evaluation of information on which to originate and present items such as:
  • Method Statements
  • Inspection & Test Plans
  • Lift Plans
  • System Information Sheets
  • Maintenance Instructions
  • As well as proof‑reading and commenting on, but not limited to:
  • Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)
  • Site Acceptance Test (SAT)
  • Requirements Documents (VVRM, MDAL)
  • This may be office based or involve site, equipment or operation inspections and tours with other team members and client representatives
  • Apply most relevant / recent / proven engineering or technical principle, theory or methodology for inclusion together with proven procedures
  • Plan the order and sequence of information, refining and developing any necessary illustration and following recognised standards for layout etc.
  • Proof all copy from own work, when necessary to copy proof / edit the work of colleagues to ensure accuracy and consistency of information
  • Prepare, originate and submit approved documentation under direction of Site Manager / Project Manager, as applicable to the project, to ensure adherence to schedule
  • To index and catalogue work which enables its’ safe storage and efficient retrieval
  • Under the direction of the Engineering/Site/Project Manager liaise over engineering, scientific and technical requirements.
  • Support project team members, subcontractors, suppliers and clients as appropriate.
  • Support programme (P6 Schedule) development throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Report delay, changes of scope and risk associated to completing Tech Author tasks to the Project Manager and subsequently the Project Planner.
  • Liaise with client, internal and group company colleagues as necessary to:
  • Originate technical documents / reports for the client
  • Contribute to technical and project meetings
  • Respond to any technical enquiry with an informed source to advise, direct and effect the appropriate course of action and supply of information
  • Provide technical input to and assist in the preparation of tenders/bids for work as required by a director or Site Manager
  • Contribute to the development of the business by the internal referral and communication of appropriate information and intelligence
  • Recognise the potential impact of own actions for the Company, clients and external bodies / agencies personnel; and to act in appreciation of this
  • Understand the importance of schedule adherence and accurately report progress and change in accordance with the contract.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Educated to ONC or equivalent level in engineering; communication or appropriate subjects - Essential
  • HND / Degree in engineering - Desirable
  • Membership of appropriate technical / professional body - Desirable
  • IOSH Working Safely or Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace or equivalent - Relevant training will be provided

Experience & Knowledge

  • Proven ability to create, develop and originate working documentation for applications such instruction, justification, process or procedural change and / or information - Essential
  • Experience of similar role within a radiological processing / waste handling environment - Essential
  • Copy editing work of others - Essential
  • Proven ability to network and liaise with internal and external team members and client representative to ensure terminology and documentation is fit for purpose - Essential
  • Familiar with strict cataloguing, recording and indexing systems - Desirable
  • Experience of delivery to tight time and accuracy standards across several projects concurrently - Desirable
  • Proven ability to plan, organise and co‑ordinate own work in time accurately and methodically - Desirable
  • Experience of AWE 804 system - Desirable
  • Compliance to legal and industry standards - Desirable
  • ISO policies and protocols, including ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 - Desirable
  • Experience and application of The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) - Desirable
  • Able to organise and plan own and work of others to enable effective working which meets pre‑determined time‑scales / deadlines / schedules - Desirable
  • Used to dealing with confidential and commercial information - Desirable
  • Familiar with integrated management system operating procedures and requirements etc - Desirable

Package - Staff only

  • Overtime – 37.5-60hours per week – Time and half
  • Overtime – 60+ hours per week or Sundays – Double time
