NSG Environmental Ltd has been delivering work programmes in the nuclear industry for over 40 years. Traditionally in the areas of decommissioning and waste management, NSG now has a broad customer base and provides a wide spectrum of services across the nuclear project lifecycle, ranging from expert consultancy support, R&D and engineering design to rekit and refurbishment, site installation services and high-hazard physical decommissioning works, amongst others.

This work is delivered at NSG’s own offices and purpose-built facilities and nuclear sites across the UK. The delivery and management of these projects and programmes of work is carried out by a skilled workforce composed of both white-collar and blue-collar personnel in technical, administrative, and physical roles.

The Role

To provide Requirements Engineering expertise to One Team programmes; working closely with, and advising appropriately, the Project Manager or Engineering Task Manager, to ensure that Systems Engineering methods, tools and processes are used to best effect for requirements capture.

Project Requirements

  1. Planning and execution of tasks in order to deliver specific agreed objectives; demonstrating control of cost, quality and timeliness of engineering output.
  2. Lead and influence collaborative working and contribute towards the achievement of project goals.
  3. Provide mentorship and supervision of staff working in systems engineering.
  4. Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player.

Technical Competency

  1. DV cleared DOORS practitioner with 5 years commercial and 5 years government experience.
  2. Able to write Use cases.
  3. Elicit, analyse and translate stakeholder needs into technical requirements.
  4. Undertake requirements derivation, architecture development and system simulation.
  5. Undertake modelling and simulation to explore problem space and potential system solutions.
  6. Undertake requirements verification and validation and support technology teams’ derivation of verification and validation events, test cases, test plans and test specifications, to support integration activities.
  7. Manage and develop long term plans in support of life-cycle phases using Systems Engineering best practice (INCOSE).
  8. Support process capture, implementation and improvements for integrating the sub-systems.
  9. Support project reviews for internal programmes and external contracts, including providing written reports and verbal briefs to management and stakeholders.
  10. Maintain and promote awareness of Systems Engineering best practice and wider systems issues.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Skills

  1. Educated to degree level or equivalent in engineering supported by practical experience or equivalent – Essential
  2. Membership of appropriate technical/professional body – Desirable
  3. IOSH Managing Safely or Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace or equivalent – Relevant training will be provided if required.
  4. Experience of applied abstract modelling techniques in support of lifecycle processes (e.g. Use Cases, Context Diagrams, etc.) – Essential
  5. Experience of system design and specification including interface design and specification – Essential
  6. Basic understanding of the UK Nuclear Industry – Essential
  7. Understanding of the radiological controls used within the type of projects delivered by NSG – Desirable
