Traditionally in the areas of decommissioning and waste management, NSG now has a broad customer base and provides a wide spectrum of services across the nuclear project lifecycle, ranging from expert consultancy support, R&D and engineering design to rekit and refurbishment, site installation services and high‑hazard physical decommissioning works, amongst others. This work is delivered at NSG’s own offices and purpose‑built facilities and nuclear sites across the UK. The delivery and management of these projects and programmes of work is carried out by a skilled workforce composed of both white‑collar and blue‑collar personnel in technical, administrative, and physical roles.

The Role
Working in the Consultancy Services Division, Lead Consultants provide consultancy to clients on a wide range of projects in the fields of radioactive waste management, decommissioning and environmental restoration.
Key Objectives
- Business
- Promote the image and reputation of NSG and the Consultancy Services Division.
- Identify and cultivate client business opportunities for the Consultancy Services Division and for the wider company.
- Manage bid proposals with a value of up to ~£25K, including preparing proposals and planning resources, schedules and pricing, in agreement with senior colleagues.
- Manage cost reimbursable tasks/projects with value up to £50K and fixed price tasks/projects up to £25K ensuring the quality of delivery within the required timescales and costs.
- Manage delivery teams and sub‑contractors to ensure delivery within contract scope for assigned projects/tasks as outlined above.
- Provide technical support to Business Development teams involved in generating internal and external work for NSG Environmental Ltd.
- Accountable to task or project manager for timescales and costs of agreed scope of work.
- Accountable to line manager for utilisation, including notifying when at risk of being over‑or under‑utilised.
- Support the preparation of bids within Consultancy and NSG as a whole.
- Provide technical support for decommissioning, waste management and environmental remediation.
- Develop competence in a range of technical areas relating to decommissioning, waste management and environmental remediation.
- Produce high quality documents to support decommissioning and waste management projects e.g. Best Available Technique, Letter of Compliance submissions, waste characterisation documents, experimental and technology reports.
- Deliver studies, including laboratory trials, to support radioactive waste management, decommissioning and environmental restoration.
- Author procedural/guidance documents (e.g. work instructions, risk assessments).
- Provide consultancy support to projects in the fields of radioactive waste management, decommissioning and environmental restoration.
- Develop and maintain expertise and currency in industry best practice.
- Peer review deliverables relating to areas of expertise within Consultancy.
- Liaise with NSG Operating Divisions and clients; developing and maintaining strong working relationships which will in turn promote NSG’s business ethos.
- Active contributor and supporter of meetings and workshops in areas of expertise, both internal and external including provision of technical secretariat.
- Facilitate meetings and workshops, both internal and external, in area of expertise.
- Liaise with the NSG Operating Divisions in areas of competency to ensure effective delivery.
- Author papers and deliver to internal and external committees/meetings etc.

- Qualifications
- Recognised professional qualifications (e.g. BSc/MSc/PhD) Science or Environmental related - Essential
- Membership of appropriate technical / professional body - Desirable
- Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace or equivalent - Relevant training will be provided if required
- Recognised within NSG as a specialist within a particular area(s) of technical competency within the field of decommissioning, waste management or environmental restoration. - Essential
