Working for NSG NSG Environmental Ltd has been delivering work programmes in the nuclear industry for over 40 years. Traditionally in the areas of decommissioning and waste management, NSG now has a broad customer base and provides a wide spectrum of services across the nuclear project lifecycle, ranging from expert consultancy support, R&D and engineering design to rekit and refurbishment, site installation services and high-hazard physical decommissioning works, amongst others. This work is delivered at NSG’s own offices and purpose-built facilities and nuclear sites across the UK. The delivery and management of these projects and programmes of work is carried out by a skilled workforce composed of both white-collar and blue-collar personnel in technical, administrative, and physical roles. The Role

To competently perform plant operations, installations, handling, assembly, dismantling and other activities on equipment or within the site/workshop environment, and as instructed by Supervisor/Site Supervisor.

Key Objectives

  • Study & Training
    • Review skill levels and update them as necessary to competently carry out the tasks required of a Technician. This will include:
    • Basic Health & Safety [British Safety Council level 2 or IOSH managing safely]
    • Lifting and Slinging qualification
    • 5S Standards
  • Project Delivery and Operations Support
    • Carry out tasks as required for specific projects including the assembly / installation / maintenance / operation and / or dismantling of:
    • general plant and equipment development / test rigs
    • Complete and maintain as necessary all associated records and documentation
  • Internal Communication and Liaison
    • Contribute to the development of business by internal referral and communication of appropriate information and intelligence

Qualifications

  • Advanced apprenticeship / NVQ Level 4 or BTEC- Essential
  • NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline- Essential
  • GCSE at 'C' grade or above in English, Mathematics, Science or technical subject- Desirable
  • CSCS card for relevant trade- Desirable
  • Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace or equivalent- Desirable (Relevant Training will be provided)

Experience & Knowledge

  • Manufacture and fitting of mechanical parts & assemblies- Essential
  • Familiar with site / factory work environments- Essential
  • Lifting & Slinging experience- Essential
  • Work experience within engineering, science or construction environment- Desirable

Skills & Abilities

  • Use of hand tools for assembly- Essential
  • Understands and can work to mechanical engineering drawings- Essential
  • General Workshop equipment such as pedestal grinder, drill, bandsaw- Essential
  • Welding – Gas & Electric ability- Desirable
  • Pipe Fitting- Swagelok- Desirable
  • Appointment of AWE Mechanical isolations NP(M)- Desirable
