The Domestic Abuse Practitioner is an integral member of the all-age Safeguarding team, providing support and guidance to the operational leadership of safeguarding within Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) with a focus on Domestic Abuse related issues. Working closely with the Safeguarding Team, and a range of partner agencies, the Domestic Abuse Practitioner will support the team to enable the Trust and its staff to fulfil their statutory obligations under the Domestic Abuse Act (2021) and wider safeguarding legislation and responsibilities against key local and national standards for safeguarding the victims of Domestic Abuse.
Responsibilities
- Support the Safeguarding Duty system and professional investigations, including Serious Incident investigations.
- Provide expert advice and consultation for staff; deliver training on domestic abuse legislation, safeguarding practice, and Trust policy.
- Attend safeguarding partnership sub groups as appropriate; participate in locality governance and team meetings.
- Under the supervision of the Named Practitioner for Safeguarding Children and Families and Specialist safeguarding practitioners, support the operational leadership of safeguarding within NSFT.
- Offer specialist guidance on domestic abuse legislation, safeguarding practice, and Trust policy; contribute to Serious Case Reviews and MARAC processes; coordinate the Domestic Abuse Champion network.
- Engage in partnership work with external agencies; support policy development; lead on sexual safety standards; advise HR on cases involving staff.
- Contribute to data analysis, safer care initiatives, and project delivery; maintain professional standards and CPD; act as a mentor and role model within the Trust.
- Promote a Think Family approach across locality teams.
Qualifications and expectations
- Expert guidance on domestic abuse legislation, safeguarding practice, and safeguarding policy.
- Ability to train staff and provide expert consultation; strong stakeholder engagement and partnership working.
- Experience with Serious Case Reviews, MARAC processes, and safeguarding governance.
- Commitment to professional development (CPD) and maintaining professional standards; mentoring and role-modeling within the Trust.
- Willingness to engage in data analysis, safer care initiatives, and project delivery.
