About The Role
Nscale is rapidly expanding its AI-focused data centre estate across Europe. The Senior Manager, Data Center Security is accountable for the design, assessment, compliance, and continuous improvement of physical security controls across all Nscale-owned and colocation data centres. This role is exclusively focused on data centre physical security. You will ensure every site meets Nscale’s internal standards and the physical security requirements aligned to ISO 27001, ISO 22237, SOC 2, Cyber Essentials Plus, NIS2, NCSC guidance, and customer-specific expectations. The role requires hands-on engagement and regular travel across EMEA to assess facilities, validate controls, oversee remediation activities, and ensure ongoing compliance and operational security across the estate.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Physical Security Assessment & Compliance
- Performing structured physical security assessments of Nscale data centres against ISO 27001 Annex A, ISO 22237 Part 6, SOC 2 physical controls, Cyber Essentials Plus, NIS2, and NCSC guidance.
- Assessing both existing and proposed data centre sites, identifying gaps in physical hardening, zoning, access control, monitoring, and resilience.
- Producing clear gap analysis reports with prioritised remediation plans, cost estimates, and implementation timelines.
- Maintaining a consistent, estate-wide physical security standard aligned to ISO 22237 design and construction principles.
- Supporting internal audits, customer audits, site visits, tenders, and security due diligence activities.
- Design & Security Architecture
- Designing and costing physical security solutions including perimeter fencing, barriers, and standoff controls.
- Access control systems (readers, controllers, authentication methods).
- CCTV systems with appropriate coverage, retention, and monitoring.
- Security zoning, cages, mantraps, turnstiles, and suite segregation.
- Intrusion detection, alarms, and environmental sensors.
- Secure loading bays, visitor management, and contractor access processes.
- Embedding physical security requirements into new data centre builds and upgrade projects.
- Translating hyperscale and enterprise customer security requirements into practical, cost-effective facility controls.
- Delivery, Suppliers & Site Engagement
- Engaging and managing local suppliers, integrators, and contractors across EMEA.
- Coordinating installation, upgrades, and commissioning activities with Nscale deployment, engineering, and operations teams.
- Ensuring all works meet ISO 22237 quality standards, ISO 27001 controls, and NCSC best practice.
- Conducting acceptance testing and validating that controls operate as designed.
- Ensuring all documentation, drawings, as-built designs, and maintenance records are stored in Nscale’s DMS.
- Operational Oversight
- Working with data centre operators and guarding providers to ensure appropriate staffing, monitoring, and escalation procedures.
- Reviewing physical security incidents, access anomalies, and CCTV events, and driving corrective actions.
- Ensuring physical security systems are maintained, tested, and faults resolved promptly.
- Acting as the physical security subject matter expert for Nscale’s data centre estate.
About You
- Extensive experience in physical security management within data centres, critical national infrastructure, or high-security environments.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 27001 physical security controls, ISO 22237 design requirements, NCSC guidance, and NIS2 obligations.
- Proven experience assessing colocation facilities and negotiating remediation with third-party operators.
- Demonstrated ability to design, specify, and cost physical security systems across multiple sites.
- Experience delivering multi-site security upgrades and managing contractors across different countries.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence suppliers and partners.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently across EMEA.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Genetec or similar access control and video management platforms.
- Experience supporting hyperscale or regulated customer audits.
- Project management certification.
- Exposure to high-density GPU, HPC, or critical compute environments.
