NSB Recruitment are partnering with a long-established, award-winning consultancy specialising in data-led energy management, engineering design, sustainability and Net Zero advisory services. With over 20 years’ experience across commercial sectors, they support clients in achieving measurable reductions in energy use, operating costs and carbon emissions through innovative, practical solutions.
They are now seeking an experienced Senior Energy Engineer to support a growing portfolio of commercial and retail clients along the M4 corridor. This role is ideally suited to a mechanical or building services engineer with a strong grounding in HVAC and/or refrigeration systems, combined with experience in energy efficiency, compliance and technical project delivery. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong professional with 5+ years’ experience, a solid qualification, and a genuine interest in progressing towards chartered status.
The Role
You will lead the delivery of engineering and energy projects, supporting clients in optimising building performance, reducing energy demand and delivering viable decarbonisation strategies. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will provide clear, commercially focused technical guidance that delivers real operational impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain trusted client relationships, developing a deep understanding of operational and energy management needs
- Deliver building services, energy and performance audits across commercial office and retail portfolios
- Identify and implement energy efficiency and carbon reduction opportunities
- Provide ongoing technical account management and client support
- Oversee contractor activity on behalf of clients
- Lead end-to-end delivery of energy and M&E projects, from concept to completion
- Prepare project plans, technical specifications, budgets and delivery schedules
- Undertake site-based surveys across multiple UK locations
- Ensure compliance with building services regulations, design standards and statutory frameworks
- Produce high-quality technical reports and performance documentation
- Collaborate with engineers, energy managers and internal delivery teams
- Mentor junior engineers and consultants, supporting professional development
- Provide accurate financial reporting and work with finance teams to ensure cost control
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- 4+ years’ experience in mechanical/building services engineering or energy consultancy
- Strong understanding of HVAC and/or refrigeration systems, including design principles and operation
- Solid knowledge of building services, energy efficiency and decarbonisation strategies
- Proven delivery of M&E or energy-related projects
- Excellent technical reporting and documentation skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
- Intermediate Excel skills (e.g. pivot tables, lookups) and strong MS Office proficiency
- Full UK driving licence
- Based along or within commuting distance of the M4 corridor (Swindon to London)
Desirable:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Energy Engineering or similar (BEng/BSc essential; MSc/MEng advantageous)
- Working towards or interested in Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (IMechE, CIBSE, EI etc.)
- ESOS Lead Assessor qualification
- Knowledge of heat pump systems
- Familiarity with BMS systems and control infrastructure
