We’re looking for an experienced Senior Project Engineer – Mechanical to join a leading engineering consultancy, focusing on retrofit projects in mission-critical data centre environments. Based in London with hybrid working options, this permanent role offers the opportunity to deliver innovative engineering solutions on major European projects. Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services upgrades in live data centre environments, including capacity increases, M&E upgrades, and lifecycle replacements.
  • Develop and manage retrofit-specific strategies, including redundancy planning, outage strategies, and resilience design.
  • Prepare and review design documents, drawings, and technical reports.
  • Manage project scope, budget, and contracts, mitigating risks and live-environment constraints.
  • Liaise with clients and vendors to ensure seamless delivery with minimal disruption.
  • Drive quality assurance and governance across all live projects.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development.
  • Support business development through proposals and technical strategies across EMEA.

Must-have Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in building services engineering with at least 3 years in data centre or mission-critical projects.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
  • Proven record delivering multi-million-euro mechanical projects from concept to completion.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Bluebeam, plus strong understanding of data centre mechanical systems (CRAC/CRAH, chilled water plant, etc.).
  • Knowledge of CIBSE, ASHRAE, BS, EN standards, and EU Energy Efficiency Directive requirements.

Nice-to-have Skills

  • Experience with mechanical analysis tools such as IES or HAP.
  • Knowledge of LEED/BREEAM standards and ESG considerations.
  • Familiarity with live-environment commissioning and resilience planning.
