Job Description:
The Production Programmer will be responsible for the CAD/CAM programming of pressed parts & lasered parts, (i.e. conversion of STP files to DXF files) for timeous issue to manufacture, and the remote programming of the press brake and laser cutting resources. The role will also be responsible for uploading of data into the MRP software in a timely manner to ensure a smooth process is upheld within the department. The Production Programmer works within the Production Engineering team and is expected to contribute to the achievement of departmental standards and objectives.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- CAD/CAM programming – ability to read and interact with 2D and 3D CAD drawings and convert these from STP to DXF files for manufacturing purposes. Deal with relevant enquiries from internal and external parts suppliers. Issue files for production use in line with the project programme.
- Machine programming – carry out remote programming for press brake and laser machines to enable parts production, in line with project programme.
- MRP system – Upload relevant and accurate data into the MRP system in accordance with project schedule.
- Process Optimisation and Continuous Improvement – Have an active involvement in the improvement of manufacturing sustainability and process safety of current & new products.
- Design for Manufacture – Contribute to the design for manufacture process, ensuring that parts are viable and that doors are designed in-line with manufacturing performance requirements .
- Manufacturing Resources – As part of the programming process, identify any tools, equipment, plant, jigs, fixtures required to improve safety, quality and productivity and initiate procurement of these.
- Capital Expenditure – Assist with justification/approval documentation for related capital expenditure..
- KPI’s – Meet project key dates for programming deliverables.
- Other duties – perform ad hoc duties as may be required, commensurate with the grade of the post.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
Essential
- Good working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD software (preferably Inventor)
- Experience in press brake operating
- Computer literacy
- Understanding of relevant manufacturing processes
- Good communication skills, including ability to work effectively within a team
- Problem solving skills
- Training and experience in the metal fabrication and parts manufacturing industry
