Overview
On behalf of our client, NRL Recruitment are looking for a Caretaker for work in the Chester area.
Duration: 2 months
Location: Chester Town Hall, CH1 2HJ
Rate: Your requested hourly rate will be considered
Job Purpose
To ensure the smooth operation, safety, and maintenance of council buildings across Cheshire West and Chester. The Caretaker will play a key role in supporting staff, Members, and visitors by maintaining facilities, managing security, and assisting with events and meetings.
Key Responsibilities

Building Operations & Security: Ensure council buildings are fully prepared and operational for daily use. Implement and monitor security arrangements for staff, Members, and visitors.

Portering & Safety: Perform portering duties including routine checks of fire and alarm systems. Assist in fire evacuations and ensure emergency procedures are followed.

Car Park Monitoring: Monitor staff car parks and verify the validity of staff parking passes.

Stock & Supplies: Maintain adequate levels of stock and provisions across council buildings.

Maintenance Duties: Carry out basic maintenance using light hand tools. Perform Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks such as: Monthly tap temperature checks; Monthly emergency lighting inspections.

Contractor Liaison: Meet and liaise with contractors and engineers attending council sites.

Meeting Room Setup: Prepare meeting rooms for functions and events, ensuring equipment is functional and rooms are presentable.

Ceremonial Duties: Participate in out-of-hours ceremonial occasions at Chester Town Hall. Uniform will be provided for ceremonial duties.

Flexible Duties: Undertake additional tasks as directed by the Account Manager or Workplace Solutions Supervisor, consistent with the roleβs responsibilities and across any location within the borough.
Person Specification
Essential:

Experience in building maintenance or facilities support

Basic knowledge of health and safety procedures

Ability to use hand tools and carry out minor repairs

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Reliable and able to work independently or as part of a team
Desirable:

Previous experience in a similar caretaker or facilities role
