Mechanical Project Engineer
12‑Month Contract – Wormington
We’re looking for an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to support the safe and efficient delivery of complex engineering projects across the oil and gas, power generation and petrochemical sectors. This contract role is ideal for someone with a strong mechanical background and a hands‑on approach to managing project engineering activities from FEED through detailed design and into commissioning and handover.

This position is based at Wormington Compressor Station.
Client Overview
Our client is a major operator in the energy and process industry, with ongoing capital projects requiring engineering expertise to maintain safe and reliable operations.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate multidiscipline engineering activities and manage technical interfaces.
- Support project planning, controls, and engineering change processes.
- Oversee procurement and management of equipment packages.
- Ensure quality and safety standards are achieved across all project phases.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers and contractors to achieve project objectives.
- Provide construction and commissioning support through to handover.
- Contribute to risk management and process safety deliverables such as HAZIDs and HAZOPs.
Must‑have Requirement
- Proven track record in oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation or process industries.
- Experience across FEED, detailed design and plant upgrade projects.
- Strong grounding in project planning and scheduling, change and risk management.
- Practical knowledge of fabrication, FAT, installation, pre‑commissioning and handover.
- Familiarity with pressure systems, valves, instrumentation, heat exchangers and packaged mechanical equipment.
- Experience supporting functional safety assessments (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL) to IEC61511 standards.
Must‑have Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Preferably chartered or working toward membership with IMechE or a similar institution.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
