The Project Manager – Secondary Steel Structures is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering all secondary steel structure construction activities safely, on programme, within budget, and in compliance with quality requirements. The role ensures effective integration of secondary steel works with other construction disciplines and successful completion through to final handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning & Delivery
- Develop and implement detailed execution plans, construction schedules, and methodologies for secondary steel structure works.
- Plan and manage manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractor resources to meet project milestones and programme requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure constructability and timely availability of drawings, materials, and information.
- Monitor construction progress and identify risks or delays, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Construction Management
- Manage all site secondary steel activities including fabrication, delivery, erection, alignment, bolting, and final completion.
- Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with approved construction procedures, method statements, and permit-to-work systems.
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate construction teams and subcontractors delivering secondary steel works.
- Interface with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and piping disciplines to ensure integrated and coordinated project execution.
- Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Enforce full compliance with project HSE policies, risk assessments, and safety plans.
- Promote a strong safety culture through toolbox talks, safety meetings, site audits, and visible leadership.
- Ensure all activities are planned and executed with safety as the highest priority.
- Quality Assurance & Control
- Ensure secondary steel works comply with applicable codes, standards, and QA/QC requirements.
- Oversee inspections, surveys, dimensional checks, and quality documentation.
- Ensure completion records and handover documentation are accurate and complete.
- Cost, Reporting & Stakeholder Management
- Control budgets related to the secondary steel scope, tracking productivity and cost performance.
- Manage variations, change control, and commercial impacts within the scope of works.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and subcontractors on secondary steel matters.
- Provide regular reports covering progress, cost, quality, and safety performance.
- Risk & Closeout
- Identify construction risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Manage change effectively to minimise impact on schedule and cost.
- Support project closeout, completion, and handover activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Significant experience delivering steel structure construction works, including project or construction management roles.
- Strong technical knowledge of steel fabrication, erection, inspection, and construction methodologies.
Skills & Competencies
