We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Advisor to join our team at an Upper Tier COMAH site. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation, COMAH regulations, and industry standards, while fostering a culture of safety across manufacturing operations. The EHS Advisor will play a key role in risk management, emergency preparedness, occupational health, and safety training.
Key Responsibilities
- Fire Safety & Emergency Preparedness: Coordinate fire drills and emergency response training to ensure site readiness. Monitor follow-up actions and continuous improvement in emergency preparedness.
- Occupational Health Surveillance: Maintain a health surveillance schedule and liaise with occupational health providers. Track employee assessments, ensuring risk mitigation for occupational hazards.
- COSHH & MSDS Management: Audit chemical inventory and ensure compliance with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) requirements. Support risk control and hazard awareness related to ink and solvent processes.
- Chemical Awareness & Storage: Deliver chemical handling and segregation training. Audit chemical/waste storage in production and R&D areas and assist in SOP development.
- Risk Assessments & Compliance: Conduct and support risk assessments for manufacturing, R&D, and office areas. Collaborate with teams to implement corrective actions and controls. Support EHS audits and inspections, ensuring compliance with UK regulations.
- Waste & Environmental Management: Liaise with waste contractors and maintain accurate compliance records. Ensure the correct disposal of hazardous waste, meeting legal requirements. Support annual Air Pollution and WEEE submissions for environmental compliance.
- Permit to Work & LOTO: Train staff and contractors on Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Permit to Work procedures. Ensure correct documentation is submitted and stored for contractor activities.
- Contractor Management & CDM Compliance: Contribute to the enforcement of contractor management protocols, including pre-qualification checks. Distribute annual questionnaires to verify compliance.
- Incident Investigation & Continuous Improvement: Lead and assist in accident investigations, verifying root causes and approving corrective actions. Maintain emergency response systems, policies, and procedures.
- Health & Safety Training: Manage the training matrix for statutory and role-specific training (e.g., PUWER, DSE, First Aid, Fire Marshal). Coordinate regular H&S training sessions to improve operational safety.
- Procedure Drafting & Documentation Control: Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with version control. Ensure documentation meets audit and compliance standards.
- EHS Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement: Provide EH&S leadership, training, and operational support to all levels of the organization. Support EHS Reps and Near Miss meetings, contributing to the EHS Committee.
Qualifications & Experience
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (essential).
- Minimum 6 - 10 years in an EHS Advisor role within manufacturing, engineering, printing, or technical environments.
- Strong knowledge of PUWER, COSHH, and CDM Regulations.
- Previous experience with ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Expertise in root cause analysis and incident investigation.
- Proven ability to deliver H&S training and engage operational teams.
- Strong IT skills (MS Office); experience with SHEQ or other H&S systems preferred.
- Chemical safety and environmental compliance experience highly desirable.
