This is a key role within a major UK infrastructure programme supporting the delivery of a nationally significant new-build project aligned with the UK’s Net Zero objectives. The role leads the engineering data and BIM workstream, ensuring compliance with the UK Information Management mandate while embedding robust, future-ready digital engineering practices across the programme and its supply chain.
You will act as the focal point for BIM strategy, standards, and data governance, enabling consistent, accurate, and accessible engineering information throughout the asset lifecycle.
Purpose of the Role
To lead and coordinate the BIM and engineering data function, ensuring that engineering information is compliant, structured, and usable across all disciplines. The role drives improved digital ways of working, supports the implementation of BIM platforms, and aligns multiple stakeholders around a shared digital engineering vision.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the engineering focal point for BIM strategy, standards, and engineering data management
- Build strong working relationships with internal teams, delivery partners, and the wider supply chain
- Support the delivery of a BIM-compliant 3D collaborative design and data environment
- Define, shape, and manage engineering digital requirements, including Employer’s Information Requirements (EIRs)
- Align diverse stakeholders on BIM objectives, standards, and implementation strategy
- Provide guidance, training, and support on BIM processes and digital engineering practices
- Act as the primary BIM contact for the engineering function
- Manage workload planning, KPIs, risks, and opportunities within the BIM and data workstream
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the organisation’s BIM vision, strategy, and roadmap
Essential Skills & Experience
- Degree qualified in an engineering or scientific discipline
- 10+ years’ experience in engineering, digital engineering, BIM, or engineering data management
- Strong knowledge of ISO 19650 and information management principles
- Experience working with 3D design, BIM, or PLM platforms
- Understanding of configuration management and end-to-end engineering delivery
- Proven ability to analyse complex problems and deliver pragmatic, effective solutions
- Experience working within large, complex capital programmes
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to a range of stakeholders
Desirable Experience
- Background in regulated or complex industries such as nuclear, aerospace, automotive, defence, or major infrastructure
- Practical experience applying ISO 19650 and the UK Information Management mandate
- Systems engineering mindset with awareness of emerging digital and engineering technologies
