About the Opportunity
NRL is proud to be recruiting a Fire Safety Advisor to support a major UK nuclear construction programme based in Somerset. This is a rare opportunity to work on a nationally significant, low‐carbon energy project that will operate for decades and deliver long‐term benefits to the UK's energy security. You'll join a team of specialist fire safety and compliance professionals, reporting to the Fire Safety Manager, and play a key role in ensuring robust fire safety standards are established, implemented, and maintained across a large, complex nuclear construction site. The role offers long‐term career prospects, exposure to a highly regulated environment, and the opportunity to make a real impact on safety and compliance.
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing fire safety advice and guidance to the Principal Contractor, the wider contractor base, and relevant project committees.
- Supporting the development, implementation, and review of fire safety arrangements, policies, and procedures that meet UK legislation and industry best practice.
- Assuring compliance with statutory and regulatory fire safety requirements across the Somerset‐based nuclear construction project.
- Advising Project Managers and design teams on fire safety matters, including the development of building fire strategies.
- Undertaking fire safety assurance audits, inspections, and monitoring activities across controlled areas and contractor work zones.
- Carrying out suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessments on behalf of the Principal Contractor.
- Reviewing Fire Risk Assessments produced by contractors and third parties.
- Reviewing DSEAR risk assessments to ensure fire and explosion risks are adequately identified and controlled.
- Working collaboratively with multiple contractors to maintain consistent fire safety standards across a complex, multi‐contractor environment.
- Supporting continuous improvement in site fire safety performance through advice, assurance, and engagement.
What You'll Need
- Proven experience undertaking fire safety risk assessments, audits, and compliance assessments within construction or commercial environments.
- Strong working knowledge of UK fire safety legislation and best practice.
- NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management Certificate (or equivalent fire safety qualification).
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. Institute of Fire Engineers) or working towards it.
- Experience developing and implementing fire safety plans, policies, and procedures.
- Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders, project teams, and multiple contractors.
- A proactive, detail‐focused, and professional approach to fire safety assurance.
Desirable
- Degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in fire safety, engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience working on large infrastructure, energy, or highly regulated projects.
- Familiarity with multi‐contractor construction environments.
- Experience reviewing DSEAR assessments.
