NRL is currently recruiting a Projects Control Manager to join one of our leading clients in their Nuclear team. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a high-performing project team within a critical sector, supporting the delivery of complex engineering works on a key site within the UK’s nuclear fleet. This role offers the chance to work in a dynamic and forward-thinking environment to deliver projects of national importance. The successful candidate will work closely with the Programme Managers, Directors across multi-disciplinary project teams, and the Client on a diverse portfolio of challenging projects.
Role Details
- Location: Cumbria
- Rate: £70.00 - £80.00 p/h UMB (IR35)
Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed monthly reviews and analysis of project controls data to determine accurate physical percentage complete across projects.
- Update project plans and progress metrics in line with agreed timeframes and reporting cycles.
- Support Project Managers and senior managers in the production of monthly project and portfolio reports, providing clear, intelligent analysis and commentary.
- Apply Earned Value Management (EVM) techniques to assess project performance against cost and schedule baselines.
- Analyse trends across the project portfolio and provide early identification of risks, issues, and performance concerns.
- Provide clear feedback and recommendations on areas of risk, variance, or underperformance.
- Facilitate and maintain project change control and risk management processes, ensuring consistency and compliance with governance requirements.
- Conduct forward-looking resource planning to support current and future project demands.
- Play an active role in recruitment activities, including candidate assessment and interviews, to support the growth and capability of the Project Controls function.
- Proactively contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of Project Control processes, tools, and standards.
- Identify shortfalls or weaknesses in project control practices during normal operations and implement action plans to address gaps.
- Continually enhance the outputs of the Project Controls function to maximise value to the business and project teams.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in a numerate discipline such as engineering, project management, finance, or quantity surveying.
- Strong analytical and numerate capability, with the ability to interpret complex data, identify emerging trends, and recommend corrective actions.
- Solid understanding of the interrelationship between schedule, cost, and commercial aspects across the project lifecycle.
- Proficiency in Earned Value Management (EVM) principles and tools.
- Advanced user of reporting and analysis tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and enterprise systems such as SAP.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly, concisely, and confidently.
Desirable
- MACostE or equivalent professional qualification.
- Experience working across a portfolio of complex projects in a regulated or structured environment.
- Demonstrated experience contributing to the development or improvement of project control frameworks and methodologies.
