Established in 1920, Sandiway Golf Club is an outstanding parkland/heathland championship course designed by Ted Ray and Harry Holt. Situated in the heart of Cheshire, it has an attractive clubhouse and impressive practice facilities. The club wishes to appoint an ambitious individual to work with our course manager, the house and professional teams, members, and the Board to drive the business forward.
The club is implementing a strategy for course development to bring back historical features of the course and to address the challenges all clubs face with climate change. The quality and reputation of the course has grown and we have recently hosted the England Golf Reid Trophy and will host the England Golf’s McGregor Trophy in July 2027.
Job Purpose
Oversee, direct, and manage all aspects of club operations, providing vision and building strategic direction whilst fostering a culture of excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management: Prepare budgets, manage and control resources, and ensure financial sustainability, growth, and longevity.
- Operational oversight and control: Supervise staff and processes across all departments, including golf, hospitality, clubhouse, and greens.
- Governance: Work collaboratively and in partnership with the Board of Directors to implement policies that comply with all legal, financial, employment, and golfing legislation to achieve strategic objectives.
- Marketing & Events: Control and balance our membership recruitment, represent and promote the club to welcome visitors.
Qualifications & Skills
Whilst desired, the following are not essential as ultimately, we seek the most capable candidate who can demonstrate an ability to take our Club forward with vision and enthusiasm:
- Proven track record in a leadership role within the golf, hospitality, sports, or club management sectors.
- Exceptional communicator and team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Financial, organizational, and operational management skills, including excellent IT system skills (a good working knowledge of IG Systems is essential).
- Strong commercial acumen with experience of growing revenue streams whilst controlling costs.
- A flexible approach to working hours to meet the demands of the position, with the ability to work under pressure.
- A University/College/CMAE or PGA recognized qualification would be beneficial but not essential.
