MECHANICAL FITTER DAYS MONDAY TO FRIDAY, £40-45,000 BASIC PLUS BENEFITS. PART OF A LARGE EUROPEAN COMPANY BUT FRIENDLY SITE WITH A FAMILY FEEL. Hours 8am-5pm Monday to Thursday and 8am-4:30pm Friday.
The Company
Our client is a leading name in several fields of manufacturing, with a major European and UK presence spanning numerous operational plants. As part of the continued growth of the business they are presently seeking a Maintenance Engineer to provide engineering support for their manufacturing and facilities in Bedford.
The Role
We are looking for a Maintenance Engineer / Technician to support our production operation through planned maintenance, breakdown response, and general engineering support. The role is mainly mechanical and practical in nature, involving day-to-day maintenance activities and problem solving on production equipment and site assets. There is some fault finding involved, but this is not a heavily electrical role. A strong focus on health and safety is essential. The site has maintained over 10 years without a Lost Time Accident (LTA), and the successful candidate will be expected to actively support and uphold this standard. The role is Monday to Friday Days, the site operates two production shifts (6am–2pm and 2pm–10pm). Very occasionally, support may be required outside of normal working hours to assist with breakdowns or urgent issues. This is infrequent and not a regular requirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on production equipment
- Change blades and belts as part of routine maintenance
- Clean, maintain, and support glue gun systems
- Replace bearings and carry out mechanical repairs
- Carry out basic fault finding to identify and resolve issues
- Repair and maintain trolleys and general site equipment
- Produce or modify simple equipment and fixtures required by production
- Carry out weekly fire alarm testing and report results
- Work closely with production teams to minimise downtime
- Record maintenance work and report recurring issues
Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Work safely at all times and follow site procedures
- Ensure equipment is fully isolated before starting work
- Maintain good housekeeping standards
- Take personal responsibility for maintaining the site’s excellent safety record
- Report hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions without delay
Person Specification
Essential:
- Proven experience in a maintenance or mechanical engineering role
- Strong mechanical ability and practical problem-solving skills
- High level of health and safety awareness
- Ability to assess issues and carry out effective repairs
- Comfortable working independently and prioritising tasks
- Reliable, proactive approach with a team mindset
Desirable:
- Manufacturing or production environment experience
- Maintenance Engineer or Technician background
- Basic welding or fabrication skills
