Multi-skilled maintenance engineer required for a leading European company offering opportunities to progress. The role involves providing engineering support for manufacturing operations in Bedford.
The Role:
- Carry out planned maintenance, reactive repairs, and project improvements on production equipment and site facilities.
- Monitor and inspect the condition of production equipment and site facilities to ensure safety and maximise uptime performance.
- Devise planned preventative maintenance schedules and update the Scheduling Software accurately and on time.
- Monitor line performance for operational efficiency, report OEE to management, and devise improvements to existing processes.
- Complete root cause analysis for breakdowns and implement solutions to mitigate reoccurrence.
- Assist with safety-related issues on site, including writing risk assessments and safe operating procedures.
- Order and control stock of spare parts, generating critical spares lists.
- Maintain statutory records for equipment on time.
- Create and keep updated maintenance work lists and proactively report to management on progress.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Strong fault diagnosis skills on industrial electrical and mechanical systems.
- Equipment includes CNC Cutting Machines, Manual Cutting Machines, and Fabrication Booths.
- Able to read electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance tasks.
- Record all planned and unplanned work in the Scheduling Software before the end of shift.
- Ensure all engineering work is completed to the required safety standards.
- Issue permits to work and monitor contractor performance.
- Monitor and record the performance of production equipment.
- Suggest improvements and carry out associated modifications as small projects.
- Liaise with suppliers for best prices and deliveries for services, spare parts, and equipment purchases.
- Become an expert in the operation of all equipment on site.
- Train employees on correct equipment operating and maintenance procedures.
- Lock off and tag out machinery when performing maintenance and repairs.
- Ensure risk assessments and SWPs are in place prior to performing tasks.
- Complete dynamic risk assessments when performing new tasks.
- Be flexible for occasional out-of-hours emergency machine repair.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Good level of written and spoken English.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- ONC/HNC served apprenticed trained technician (electrical or mechanical).
- Multi-skilled Engineer.
- Experience in a fast-paced production environment.
- Good aptitude for pneumatics and hydraulics.
- Confident under pressure and able to meet deadlines.
- Teamworking skills to liaise with departments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Awareness of Health and Safety Legislation.
- 17th / 18th Edition Wiring Regulations preferred.
- Able to carry out basic welding and machining preferred.
