Immediate start
We are supporting a well-established, high-profile charity with the appointment of an experienced Interim Director of Finance at an important stage in its development. The organisation is moving through a significant period of structural and governance change and requires a senior finance leader who can provide Board-level oversight, financial assurance and strategic leadership during the transition. This is not a day-to-day accounting role. An established finance function is already in place, led operationally by an experienced Head of Finance.
The Interim Director of Finance will operate at a more strategic level, providing advice, assurance, challenge and financial leadership to the Chief Executive, Board and wider senior team. The role will have a particular focus on:
- providing senior financial advice and challenge to the Chief Executive and Board;
- supporting the organisation through a significant period of structural and governance transition;
- ensuring robust financial governance, control, risk management and assurance;
- overseeing the financial implications of transition, including assets, liabilities and future operating arrangements;
- working closely with the Head of Finance to ensure effective financial reporting and oversight;
- supporting the development of appropriate financial policies, controls and delegated authorities;
- acting as a trusted senior adviser to internal and external stakeholders.
About You
You will be a fully qualified accountant, holding ACA, ACMA, ACCA or CIPFA, with significant senior finance leadership experience, ideally at Finance Director, CFO or equivalent level. You will bring:
- strong Board-level credibility and the ability to provide clear, independent financial advice;
- experience of leading through organisational change, transition or restructuring;
- strong financial governance, planning, risk and assurance capability;
- the ability to operate strategically while retaining sufficient understanding of operational finance to provide effective oversight;
- strong stakeholder management skills across complex organisational boundaries;
- sound judgement, pragmatism and the confidence to provide constructive challenge.
Experience within a charity, healthcare, public sector or similarly regulated and purpose-led environment would be advantageous. Previous experience of charity accounting or supporting an organisation through increased independence or structural change would also be useful, but is not essential. This is an opportunity to play an important senior leadership role at a pivotal point in the organisation’s development, providing continuity and financial assurance while helping to establish the foundations for its next phase.
