Crane Service Engineer – Electrical Bias

Base Pay Range

  • Starting salary between £40,000 – £45,000, depending on experience.
  • Earning potential of £50,000 – £60,000+ through overtime and out‑of‑hours work.

Role Overview

Provide expert service and safety advice to customers, travelling to sites to diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and ensure lifting systems operate safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities & Daily Tasks

  • Inspect, service, and repair overhead cranes, hoists, jib cranes, runway systems, and mobile gantries.
  • Travel to customer sites in a company vehicle for planned maintenance and breakdown response.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical faults—often without detailed drawings—and carry out repairs or component replacements.
  • Work with motors, drives, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, and control panels.
  • Perform basic welding and fabrication tasks (desirable).
  • Operate lifting equipment safely, including slinging and lifting operations.
  • Troubleshoot engineering issues to minimise customer downtime.
  • Inspect lifting equipment for safety and compliance.
  • Liaise with customers to explain work carried out and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain accurate service records and update compliance documentation.
  • Provide clear, professional reports and deliver outstanding customer service with a safety‑first approach.

Skills, Experience & Person Specification

  • Proven experience in a multi‑skilled engineering role with an electrical bias.
  • Strong electrical fault‑finding skills.
  • Experience with three‑phase systems—motors, drives, gearboxes, and hoists.
  • Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical lifting systems.
  • Welding/fabrication experience (desirable).
  • Comfortable working at height and in confined environments.
  • Valid UK driving licence (essential).
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Organised, safety‑conscious, and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Professional, proactive, and adaptable.
